Are They Allowed To Paint My Driveway?

When I left the house this morning I got to the end of the driveway and there were 4 very large paw prints painted on our driveway. It was obvious who did it..well not “who” exactly, but they were paw prints of our kids’ school mascot so it was someone affiliated with the school.
I drove down the road and saw that they had painted other people’s driveways too.
Now really this doesn’t bother me, I mean it’s not hurting anything and the kids think it’s cool (they do look pretty neat)…I just want to know who thought it was okay to go around painting people’s driveways? lol
BQ: What is your kids’ school mascot?

  1. lol what says:

I would say that this is not legal. They should have asked you first, but at least it looks cool.
BQ~ Jax is not in school, but my mascot was a Trojan (not the condom)

  2. She Is My Sunshine! says:

No it is not really legal, it is graffiti, if it is cute and you like it, then its all good. Lol
My daughter is just 2, so no mascot yet.

  3. kbk823 says:

I don’t think it would be allowed, unless you had given permission beforehand. It’s defacing private or public property (depending on where the driveway ends, it may actually be on city or town land).
My child’s mascot is a Bobcat

  4. lillilou says:

Probably not, but toilet papering trees would be a lot worse, especially as my crummogeony 9th grade biology teacher put a stop to that with his environmental whinings.

  5. mom24 says:

    No, it’s vandalism.

Of course it isn’t ok to do that. I’m sure the kids or parents or both that did it didn’t mean any harm, but they obviously didn’t take into consideration that some people might be furious about it and not take it ok like you are. Hopefully it will come to light who did it and they can be talked to about thinking ahead before doing something like that, but hopefully not punished too much.
School mascots seem to be more of an American thing. We live in Canada, our kids schools do not have mascots.

They drove 15 miles to flock our yard with those stupid flamingos, Crossed our gate that says NO TRESPASSING BEWARE OF DOG in order to wrap our yard in school colored ribbon and we HATE football….
Texans and highschool football is outta control….

That’s weird. Our local schools do that too, but they usually go around and ask people to pay for them to raise money for sports boosters. A huge one is like $50 and and a smaller one is around $25. They usually need repainted each year.
I don’t think it’s right that they did that without your permission…

  9. Eric says:

Well if its actually on your driveway and not down on the road then it is illegal because they are damaging (not physically but the image of your property) the look of your driveway. If it doesn’t bother you then I guess you could say it isn’t illegal. Also if it washes off easily, i guess it wouldn’t be a big deal.
I don’t have any kids (just graduated high school myself a year ago) but we were the Buffalo Bison in Minnesota. Now I’m at South Dakota State and we are the very intimidating jackrabbits.

I think it show poor judgment, what if someone had just freshly sealed it. They could be mad at that. My son’s school mascot is a Tiger, and that just gave me an idea for a fund raiser! Thanks!

I think it would definitely be illegal for them to paint your property without your permission. But that does sound pretty cute. They absolutely should have asked you first though.
This year my son is the the “yellow stars” class at daycare. Next year he will be in the “red birds” class. The Haymakers (lol) is the mascot of the elementary he will go to, and the local high school mascot is the Panther.

  12. Dread Head momma III says:

the last 4 feet of your property here is actually city owned… idk if it’s teh same there… but if it’s at teh end there would be nothing you could do to stop them…

When i was in a public high school, we had another just down the road.
    Riverly was fierce.
We had a “P” up on the hill behind our school and they turned it into something unmenitonalble
In return we got a whole bunch of horse apples and put them all over their campus. Painted hoof prints all around.
Living in the counrty is fun.
