rainforest have many type of niche to be filled so they have SO THEY HAVE HIGHER BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY EXPLAIN WHAT THIS STATEMENT MEANS
The rainforest is on the equator, lots of heat and humidity, the two ingredients for lots of plant growth. Where there is plants, animals will follow. And there you have it, an ecosystem.
Basically, what this statement means is that because there are so many different Niches to be filled, more species can settle in each individual niche without the competition that would be encountered if there were less niches and more species. Example: Say there are 200 diff. species and 200 diff. niches….each species gets its own….that means each species gets its own space for reproduction, resources (food water, shelter). Conversly, say that there are 300 species and 5 niches. There is going to be A LOT of competition between those 300 species for those 5 places to live. This is going to cause the species who lose to 1). ADAPT and change the niche they require to live or 2). become extinct. Therefore, it makes sense that more niche’s lead to more happy species that aren’t having to kill eachother for a place to eat =) make senes?
every organism has a different niche that is a different role to play in the environment. in rainforests, there are more roles to play and as every organism plays a different role, more organisms can exist together as there are less competition, creating higher biological diversity.
