Were You Raised In The United Pentecostal Oneness Church But Still Keep The Standards But Not The Doctrine Or?

visa versa? How has the UPC impacted your life or its affiliates? DO you still believe you need to speak in tongues to be saved? Do you judge women automatically as a whore or unsaved when you see her wearing pants, makeup or jewelry?

no I was brought up Methodist.

I am from UPC background. I am still Apostolic in doctrine. My church does not have the strict dress code of the UPC, nor do we judge people by their outward appearance. We believe holiness is a condition of the heart, and if the heart is right, behavior and appearance will follow.
Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence, or manifestation of the Spirit that is given to everyone who receives it. (1 Cor. 12:7; Acts 2:4, 10:45-46, 19:6) Receiving the Spirit is required for salvation. (Acts 2:38; John 3:3-5; Romans 8:9) So if receiving the Spirit is necessary to be saved, and the initial evidence of receiving the Spirit is speaking in tongues, then yes, all who are saved will speak in tongues. (This is NOT the gift of tongues, which not all believers will receive. This is a different type of tongues, and the scriptural examples of it do not follow the rules for the gift of tongues, that is, all may speak simultaneously, there is no limit on how many, and no interpretation is expected or required)

I am Oneness Pentecostal—I do not define myself as UPC.
I am sorry that you had a bad experience, but I don’t think that you should throw the baby out with the bath water. Oneness/holiness doctrine is scriptural. I admit, however, that *some* Oneness believers go overboard with some of their standards.

  4. Marco Polo says:

There are many standards in the UPC that are taken from the Old Testament and should not be put on the members. Most are put on the women. Many churches are dropping standards and is mainly for the reason stated.
Try as I may, because of family members, I can not say that one can receive the Holy Ghost with out speaking in tongues.
Joh 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Although there is a difference in Gift and Gifts of the Holy Ghost (the Gift is Eternal Life, not tongues) the gifts are manifestations of the Holy Ghost, one being tongues.

  5. 888 says:

    Oneness is a cult.
