I don’t think America is becoming more religious. As a college student who knows many people across this country at institutions of higher education, most of them don’t believe in a god. As these younger generations grow up and make it into political office, religion will decline in civilized areas even more. I guarantee I’ll see the first president of this country who puts agnostic (or hopefully atheist) as their religious belief rather than Christian.
According to a 2007 Pew poll, the number of “non-affiliated” Americans was 16.1%, up from 8% just one decade before. This number is nearly 25% in the under 25 age group. And 55% of those who self-identify as “atheists” are under 35. So yes, the trend is that America is getting less religious and more and more young people in particular are turning away from religion.http://religions.pewforum.org/reports
Christians are going to claim polls are wrong but this is the truth. I am part of that youth and many of us do not believe! Get over it!

According to my philosophy professor, the entire American Senate is run by Christians. What does that say about the country?
The thing is, religion is all about power and control as much as it is about spirituality. People see this now, and they understand that it is bad. Honestly, I welcome the godless age. Maybe people can learn to make moral judgements based off their inner morality rather than some book some dude wrote a thousand years ago. I mean, the problem with gay-haters is rooted in religion. According to them, God said man shall not lay with man, and yet God also said that slaves were okay and so was beating your wife and children. Pick and choose much?
Too much contradiction and controversy.
Although our current president claims to be Christian, his actions show otherwise. I think he should just be honest and admit that he is a secular humanist.

im christian and believe the polls are accurate…. i just dont see what the big deal is (some presidents in the 1700’s probably didnt believe in God) its all up to people’s choice
