Would It Be Necessary For An Ex-catholic Or Ex-orthodox Christian To Get Baptized Again?

If a Catholic or Orthodox Christian is baptized as an infant, and then cuts all ties to that church as an adult, would they have to be baptized again, this time after having studied the Bible and taken the initiative themselves… what if they are no longer affiliated with any church (non-denominational/no religion)

i reckon god is not impressed with, nor flattered by, mans ancient traditions.
god says to me one time “enough with all the readin’ boy….why dont you show me…show me how much you can forgive, accept, and love yourself and others”…
my opinion; learn from the teachings of the Christ rather than adhering to doctrine of the church.http://www.believers.org/believe/bel190.…http://www.godandscience.org/doctrine/ba…

I could give you an answer, but it would be from a Catholic-Christian perspective and I’m assuming you want a more Protestant/Evangelical response. If that’s the case, I’m sure Chris will be along shortly with his four-page long response on the evils of Catholicism.

Infant baptism is not a personal choice. It is the choice of the parent rather than that of the individual. Baptism, in my belief, should be a choice made by the individual. Just as we must accept Christ as an individual.

No. Once you are baptized, that’s it; you are good to go for life. This is true for almost all Christian denominations, except the ones who do not recognize infant baptisms. RC’s and Orthodox do.

  5. Ricky says:

Re-baptism is desired, not for salvation but to show God your dedication to the true faith, try to find Pastor that is the closest to your beliefs and get baptized by them.

  6. Madmarv says:

Baptism is just a symbol of a new life in Christ. Not necessary but can be done if the person in question wants to rededicate his/her life to Christ.

Being baptized as an infant means NOTHING!
It is an ACT of contrition before God showing God one’s request in faith.
This is another reason why Catholicism is a lie. And another reason why Martin Luther was fed up with the crap theology!
It’s just one of the reasons the Protestant Reformation occurred and STAYED!
Scripture tells us in no uncertain way that one REQUESTS baptism; just like Jesus did it. (Luke 3:21)
