white fur on underside of tail–tail is raised in alarm if danger is spotted warning other deer
fur is brown in summer and more greyish in winter-helps the deer blend into the forest better since bark of trees in winter predominates and that is greyer and in summer the soil is more brown because of leaf litter breakdown
fawns have dappled fur to help them blend in with dappled sunlight in spring and summer (predators do not see in color)
long legs for running to escape predators
capacity to jump to navigate terrain such as fallen trees and escape predators
rear back on hind legs to reach higher branches–allows them to reach leaves or fruit (spring and summer) or bark (winter) to feed
multiple stomachs –ability to chew cud means they can extract more nutrients from low quality food (helpful in winter when bark is a source of food and in summer when grasses are drying and need to get as much nutrition as possible)
