Is ‘freedom Of Speech’ A Myth In America?

As Fox News noted in its own coverage of the incident, the network had earlier been covering a story about another apparent Secret Service social networking-related gaffe: Its visit to a 13-year-old Tacoma, Wash., resident at his school, where agents interrogated the boy without his mother present. His infraction? Warning on Facebook that the president should be vigilant against possible terrorist attacks in the aftermath of Osama bin Laden’s death.
Timi Robertson, the boy’s mother, told local Fox affiliate Q13 that she “just about lost it,” when a school security guard called her to inform her that her son was being interrogated. “My 13-year-old son is supposed to be safe and secure in his classroom, and he’s being interrogated without my knowledge or consent privately.”

Yes, it is. A friend of mine was suspended for a couple of days for saying, “Get a rope!” He said it in reference to Obama, but didn’t mean anything racial by it. No, we can’t say ANYTHING in this country without someone getting riled up and demanding punishment.

  2. Opinionated and Right says:

I think the line from the “American President” movie said it best.
” “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”. ”
Today, too many people have thin skin and are “hurt” by the things people say.

It depends who you are. For example, a black radio personality can make any derogatory remarks he/she wants to about white people, but if a white person (example: Don Imus) does the same, there will be big trouble. Any black person can say anything they want about a white person, and it is protected by “freedom of expression”. But a white person has to watch what they say about a black person, even if it is the truth.
Even on here. Look how words like “honkey” and “gringo” are allowed, yet if someone types a slur against blacks or hispanics, is is considered “offensive” and censored.

I think people interpret freedom of speech as they want. You cannot make threats.
The problem I think in the case is that the person being question is a boy..not over 18. I see why a mother would get upset..
plus he didnt even said anything odd…mad people have been saying that. Freedom of speech is not a myth, the way that people think it is, is a myth.
The boy was just interrogated..he wasnt accused nor was he arrested.
