Looks likely that it will snuff it. However he’s carved it in a helix, so it may survive. It was probably going to get felled anyway.
We had a spate of tree vandals killing trees by ring barking. Thankfully some of the trees recovered, as the eejits didn’t cut deep enough.
No, it’s probably OK because he does it with the Forestry Commission and they’re telling him what trees he can use, he uses trees that are condemned through disease etc, and he also uses timber from fallen trees, the tree in the picture had obviously seen better days even before he got to it.
Hopefully though the Forestry Commission will point out to visitors ‘don’t try this at home’.
