It used to be that we mainly had ravens, but now we see that crows occupy a good share of the ravens’ niche. I am told that a huge crow roost east of town does not seem diminished. I have also heard that this appearance of crows in urban areas has been seen throughout North America.
I would appreciate if you would tell me about crows in your areas, whether they have increased, diminished, or remained the same–whether you are urban, or rural. I would also like to hear your explanations, and whether you think this increase is apparent, or real.
Thank you.
Maybe there migration pattern has been changed.
Since cities offer a free buffet they can nest all year round near your area. Only truly wild crows, though i doubt that since crows are known to be smart and hang out in human areas for food.
As urban environments have increased, crows have adapted to them. They found plenty of food so their numbers also increased.
The population is actually only slightly increasing. Crows are choosing to hold over for the winter in urban and suburban areas because the weather is warming and they don’t have to travel as far south. It’s also normally warmer in the city than in the countryside. Densly populated areas also have more food available year round (i.e. garbage, pet food, etc.).
