somewhere way back in time it was considered disrespectful to wear them indoors… its the same reason you call teachers by their last names… Its just another way for them to control you because of their insecurities

    Depends on the school.
Some schools allow any kind of hats, and some allow none. I’ve heard all kinds of reasons, ranging from gangs, to blocking others’ view, even to shading the student’s eyes to hide drug use.
In the end, the reason is: because they can.

As a student, if you always wear a hat in school, it will give others that you don’t show you respect to them! Also, in my view, I think it is a bit of strange if you always wear a hat in school!

I agree with Patrick, but I would like,to add that once upon a time, most schools in north America we’re somehow affiliated with some sort of religion, or at the very least incorporated prayer and other Christian practices. One of the epistles, Timothy, or I Corinthians, or both, I forget, says that it is wrong for men to pray with their heads covered. So I’m sure the nasty nuns simply forbade the boys to wear hats at all to prevent them from wearing them while they prayed. Then once the religious aspect was forgotten, the girls, who we’re supposed to wear head coverings while they prayed, had to abide by the same rules as the boys so that it would be fair.
