Using the WordPress script would be best. It is easy to set up & configure with lots of free themes and plugins for security,seo,social marketing etc.
With a static site it is always time consuming adding and updating your site but that doesn’t apply to a WordPress blog. You could also make it an online store to sell ebooks just by adding an e-commerce plugin.
You can start from simple blog on wordpress or blogpost .They are making huge money
