What Is Wrong With My Chihauhua? Is She Scared Of Me?

I’ve had my Chihuahua for 9 years, and we have always been really close. Closer than anything in the world. Were I would go she would follow me. If someone got near me in a aggresive way she would defend me. She loved me so much. But she has been behaving weird this past week. Let me explain. Everyday my bro and I always hang out at my mom’s room its bright and I feel good there I guess it has a “family” feel to it. So there was a time in which I would go to my mom’s room and leave my dog in my room. I dint realize it was bad for her until weeks later. Like literally she would be locked up in there all day I would feed her there and she would only go out to pee/poo. So now I take her with me everywere I take her out to walk and she is always with me in mom’s room. Recently she came up with a tooth abscess and while I come up with the money to take her to get it removed she has been more attched to me. I understand that she is in pain and scared so she doesn’t wanna be alone. But now she doesn’t want to go to my room. That’s were she sleeps in my room with me. It has been like that since forever, since she was born. She doesn’t want to leave with me to my room. At all. My mom says its because she is scared of me and my room but I think she doesn’t want to go there because she thinks ima leave her locked in there again. What do you think? Is she scared of something in the room? Or me? Or of being locked up all over again.?

  1. Painted Pony says:

She’s in pain! Pain can make dogs do strange things. While you wait to save up to have an abscessed tooth removed, that infection is spreading throughout her body. It will affect her heart, liver, kidneys and can even infect her BRAIN.
You need to get her to a vet ASAP and have that tooth extracted and have her teeth cleaned. She’s just getting sicker by the day. Borrow the money from a friend or relative, put it on a credit card, sell of pawn something (like your computer), cell phone, etc. Find a vet who will take payments, or contact the SPCA or local humane society. They sometimes have low cost options for things like this.
Just get her back into good health and you’ll see a change in her behavior. Vet care isn’t something you put off!
ADD: And, after she’s feeling better – no dog likes to be locked in a room all day. They like to get out and play, go for walks and have some companionship. Sounds like you need to start taking lots better care of your dog if you want her around. She’s getting older and needs lots more TLC than you’re offering.
ADD #2: How do you know how much to give her? If this wasn’t prescribed by a vet – you could be doing more harm than good and you should be scared. Dogs can experience life-threatening side effects from penicillin and other types of antibiotics – that’s why you NEVER give them to your dog unless told to do so by a vet. The SPCA has an 800 number. Look it up and call them. They often have affiliates that don’t go by the SPCA name, but may offer you some help. At least try to find it. If your vet won’t take payments, then pawn your computer and any other valuables you have (i.e. cell phone, jewelry, etc.), you should be able to scrape the money together.
