Hi there!
I’m going to Hong Kong late March and during my trip I want to get my nails done. Acrylic or gel, either or.
My hotel is the Harbour Plaza North Point Hotel; I think it’s very central, am I correct? My father will be attending the APLF, so we had to choose the hotel accordingly.
I’ve found some places online, but I’d like recommendations too. It would be great if you could give me an estimated price range.
Also, where else should I go for some cheap shopping? Alas, I’m not an itsy bitsy girl, so I doubt I’ll find any clothing my size, but accessories and little nik-naks
I’ll be traveling alone, so what else would you suggest? I’m in contact with one of the best travel agencies there [I also work in a travel agency in Istanbul 🙂 ] but I’d like the opinions of past travelers.
Oh, I’m a huge foodie. FOoOooOOood ♥♥♥ please ‘gimme ideas!
Ah and I wan’t to buy a rice cooker…how much do you reckon they’d go for? Where should I go?
Thnx!
Nails: DO NOT fall prey to any of the old ladies advertising cheap manicures in Causeway Bay. They will lead you up to a nail parlour promising great service and you’ll receive crap service, trust me. It’s a tourist trap. And it’s not amazingly cheap either (rounds out to around $35 US for a manicure). I wouldn’t recommend going to the ones on the street/market stalls either since the hygiene is spotty. A good one that I recommend where you’ll get treated like a princess is My Nail inside IFC.
Cheap shopping: this one’s a little local secret. Go to Prince Edward MTR station exit B, there’s a place called “World Trade Center” right next to a very popular snack shop that sells fish balls (throngs of people just hawk aroudn there). Inside, there’s a tonne of cheap clothes and accessories. I bring all my overseas friends visiting HK to this place and they’re like kids in a candy store every time. Some of the clothes are not so great quality, and some are pretty good; you just have to look. But don’t worry you’ll have a lot of fun browsing around. There’s a lot of “free-size”, loosing clothing too so I’m sure you can find something to fit you.
Tip: Causeway Bay has a little shopping arcade called “Beverly Island” which is right across from the SOGO department store. Just browse, stuff is overpriced there. Hop on over to the Laforet shopping arcade next door (the hot pink entrance) and stuff is at least 20% cheaper.
Food: don’t get me started on this because I don’t think I can stop. HK is every foodie’s paradise. I’ll just list a few of my many beloved places:
Shanghainese food at any Crystal Jade (there’s one in the airport)
Teppanyaki at Mandarin Oriental
Sushi at Baby Café – this is a rather funny place. It was opened by Angelababy, a rather unassuming blogger who transformed herself into the hottest top model. This is one of her business ventures and the place is decorated with portraits of her. I like taking people here just for laughs. The food is not bad.
Hotel buffets are a must-try; they are amazing here.
La Scala at Prince Edward Hotel: the hotel isn’t 5 star but this buffet is really great quality for the price
Mira Hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui
Egg tarts from Tai Cheong bakery are the absolute best. Get ’em while they’re hot fresh and the middle just jiggly.
