Whats So Great About 300 Aac Blackout?

This newer 30 cal. round is quite hyped about recently. What makes it more effective than say .308 or 6.8 SPC?

    Ah yes, the hype.
Part of the enthusiasm springs from the fact that it’s something new. If it’s new, nobody has one yet. If nobody has one yet, there’s a chance you can get some of them to buy it. It’s called marketing. Getting you to buy things you really don’t need just because you don’t have one yet.
Which is not to say that it doesn’t fill a very particular niche. It’s just that nine tenths of those who are lusting over it right now don’t, and never will, need a rifle that shoots in the niche.

“Effectiveness” depends on the purpose. If muzzle velocity and bullet weight were the only factors that defined and effective cartridge, everyone would be shooting .50 BMG. The 300 AAC Blackout is really designed to be used in similar situations as the 5.56, using the same mags with the same capacity, but a larger diameter, higher mass bullet for barrier penetration and subsonic loadings for use with suppressors. Unlike the 6.8SPC and .7.62x51mm, the ONLY thing that must be changed on an AR platform is the barrel.
It is still an intermediate cartridge similar so it is lighter recoil, lighter weight, and smaller size than the .308 (7.62x51mm). The 7.62.51mm is really a different class used for different purposes than the 300 AAC Blackout.
It is designed for use in short barrels (<16"). The .300 AAC Blackout is better ballistics out of a 9" barrel than the 5.56 out of a 14.5" barrel, making it worth considering as a PDW cartridge. The .308 and 6.8SPC are designed for longer ranges and barrels of at least 16", not really PDW.
Here is a pretty decent summary of the purpose and advantages of the .300 AAC Blackout:http://300aacblackout.com/resources/300-…

The #1 reason for all the hype surrounding this new caliber is that your existing AR will fire it in the same gun with the same magazines.
You really only need to buy a new barrel or new upper.
It’s Americas answer to the 7.62×39

Well 1:Some say it hits harder than the 308,but I think that’s a load of bull ****.2:And this is the big one,It quite as a church mouse when it’s silenced! It’s a great bullet and shoots great out of AR-15’s!Hope I helped.

  5. Tex says:

It will allow you to shoot .30 caliber bullets in weights of up to 220 grains out of an AR-15 platform. Other than that, nothing is special about it. At subsonic velocities with a suppressor it is outstanding for feral hogs.
