I’m going to Anime Boston this spring. I’ve never been to any sort of convention like this before. I’m going to be cosplaying as well. I have no idea what to expect!
Do people arrive in their costumes or do they put them on there? I can’t imagine how people could get ready at a con especially when they have a complex costume.. which I will. However, I’m not staying in a hotel, I’m driving there.. will I look utterly ridiculous walking in all dressed up? Do people wear their cosplays for the whole day?
Say you have a really good costume.. how often do you get stopped for pictures?
Also.. I’ve heard people are really friendly and you actually make friends at conventions? The thing is, anime is kind of a secret hobby of mine, I’m going with the only friend who knows I like this stuff. I don’t tend to hang out with the kind of people who do this so I have no idea what that’s going to be like either!
Also.. what is there to even DO at a convention! I know that’s a stupid question but really.. what do you do other than just walk around in your costume? I do know there’s a market place and artist’s ally… which is partly why I’m going, I’m popular on deviantART and I’m thinking of getting a booth next year.. so I want to see what the deal is.
So yeah.. what should I expect! If there’s anything else you can tell me that would be great!
Thanks!
People usually show up in costume. In fact it’s pretty awesome to see you favorite anime character ordering coffee at the Starbucks with you. There are screenings, movies, panels with authors and artists, even actors. They have costume contests and fun games look online for events that day. People will constantly be asking for your photo or hugs. Be careful if you are a girl in a revealing costume, there will be perverts. And yes, you can make a ton of friends out there. I usually go to them, but I am busy this year. People are generally nicer at cons. Have a great time! It will be a blast.
