Ok so without divulging to much info about the company:
We are working on an IT training niche small business and are at a standstill about the logistics of it.
So we will specialize in a specific type of training but are undecided how to distribute the software.
It has been brough up to use usb or cd to distribute, but without specific licensing we could not control people just distributing it on thier own….
So it has been brought up to have an online server to provide the service to hold the software. Users would purchase it and be issues a password/usrname to access the server. So my questions are this……
1. Is it feasible to manage the server ourselves with about 1k to 2k users? Any cost estimate for this?
2. Is there any other way to distribute software and protect the privacy of that software?
3. Any ideas how much a SaaS company would charge to host a software of this nature?
Thanks a ton IT community!
It’s only feasible if you have the technical know how and capacity. You’d better make dang sure you have the processing power and bandwidth to handle the peak number of outside users you will have
Yes, you can distribute software. People are doing it right now. Use software licenses with server based activation or hardware dongles
Check out cloud service providers that scale like Amazon EC2 for pricing. How much it cost depends on how much you use. You pay as you go. They have options all the day down from free micro instances to extra large high capacity http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/ and types here http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types…
