Okay so I set up a beauty blog around 3 weeks and well not really all beauty but like writing about everyday issues blah blah blah but I was wondering is there any tips to get more followers? I have no followers and get around 50 views everyday but is there easy ways to get followers? Once I get followers I wanna set up the advert so I can advertise and get some money to buy products to review and then get someone to do my blog up! Thanks in advance!
How do you increase blog traffic? It’s the million dollar question that every new blogger stumbles upon.
Here are a few answers:
1. Make sure you keep the topic of your blog fairly narrow. You say it’s a beauty blog but also about everyday issues and I think your vagueness in how you view it, will hinder you in trying to promote it to other people. If there is one great piece of advice for any blogger – it’s choose a narrow niche – and stick to it consistently!
If someone is passionate about nailcare and one day reads a great post you wrote on french manicures, and then revisits your blog next week for more of the same, they’ll be disappointed if your next post is about how to style a bob – no matter how brilliantly it is written.
Think about it. If you want to find out more about a subject, it’s more helpful if there’s a blog that only talks about that one subject, otherwise it’s pot luck if you find the content you want!
But….say you decide to specialise on a narrow topic like nail care – well how easy it will be to become an authority about nailcare. It’s hard to become an authority on a lot of subjects – far easier to keep it small and simple, and really be a massive fish in that small pond. In fact the narrower the better – you could specialise in a specific type of nail procedure/technique. (Or any other very specific beauty topic!)
2. Once you know exactly what topic you’re covering, you now need to try and make sure that when people search for advice on nail care, you come up top of the search engine results! Because that means lovely free traffic! To do so you’ll need to use a free tool created by Google that helps you to find keywords. (Just Google it as if I mention it, my reply will get incorrectly deleted as spam by the competition.)
Just pop in the phrases you think people put in search engines like: “help for breaking nails” “put on nail varnish perfectly” etc and you do your best to find phrases that have high search (loads of people using that phrase each month) and low competition (few competing blogs are trying to rank for that keyword phrase).
When you write your next post, use one of your keyword phrases several times within the article and, if you are writing high quality long (500 words plus) blog posts you should start to see yourself rank in the search engines.
3. Since you’ve chosen your blogging topic/niche, now it becomes very simple to actively seek out your audience. Find interesting youtube videos about nailcare and comment on them, visit nailcare forums and write comments on nailcare blogs. Most will allow you to include a back link to your site – so make full and helpful comments and their audience will become your audience!
4. Pay for advertising – but only if you want a quick win. Paying for adverts on Facebook, Google and Youtube can become quite costly, but if you want to research into it, just learn all you can about what is called “cost per click” – essentially, if no one clicks on your advert, you won’t be charged – so you’re only paying for results! Even if you do go down the advertising route, you should absolutely keep working on the first three suggestions; they really will bring you long term, free traffic that keeps on coming.
All of these tips are nothing without high quality blog posts. Make them long, always include media (imagery or videos) as search engines love rich media, and post regularly.
It is highly ineffective to post a lot for a few weeks and then stop for a week or two. Work out a pattern – even if it’s just twice a week – and stick to it. It’ll help your search engine ranking and it will also help your readers know what to expect from you.
Best of luck. Blog on!
Do you have a Twitter account or Facebook? Both these accounts will help you to share your blog posts and expand your reach and hopefully bring more traffic to your blog. Also insert Twitter and Facebook share buttons on your blog so viewers can share your content with their followers. Do this right and your blog may go viral and then you will hopefully get all the followers you need. But make sure your blog posts offer value to your viewers or they may not come back again. Easiest way is to comment on the blogs of other people–not advertising yourself, but genuinely comment on a post and usually people will return the favor.
update often but not too often
