What Are Some Good Resources To Become An Expert On All Things Alcohol Related?

First, I want to specify that my ultimate goal is not necessarily to become a bartender or mixologist. However, I recently became interested in brewing my own sake or shochu. While I found plenty of guides on the subject, I found myself wanting to know exactly what certain terms meant, how flavors work, etc so that I may eventually perfect my brew.
I am internet-savvy, but I seem to only find either bare-boned guides on brewing, or only some niche sources. I will peruse multiple sources if it comes to it, but I was hoping there was a book or website that sort of laid everything out regarding what I am looking for. Any help and references is much appreciated!

Is It Legal For A Restaurant To Search Bags At A Coat Check?

My friends and I frequent a restaurant on my college campus. When we arrive, we drop all of our jackets and book-bags in some closets at the front of the restaurant before going in (at the request of the restaurant) so that we don’t have to put them on the floor under the tables and also, in part, to ensure that we are not bringing alcohol into the restaurant. We have always complied with this policy, because the restaurant asked us to. However, I recently found out from one of the restaurant’s former employees that the general manager would frequently ask restaurant staff to search through our bags while they were in those closets. I have never seen a sign posted in the restaurant indicating that this is policy.
I realize there are various moral and ethical implications at play, but is this legal? For what it’s worth, we are in the state of Connecticut, and the restaurant is an independent restaurant (not affiliated with our University).

The Legality Of This Situation?

So last week, a friend of mine was caught with alcohol at one of our High School football games (stupid I know), and we’re both 18. I wasn’t drinking, and didn’t get in trouble, but my friend was found out because the Principal said “Hey, give me that bottle” (we’re not supposed to have bottles from outside while in the stadium. The stadium is non school-affiliated, either.), my friend handed it over, and things went on from there.
So… did my friend have to give him the bottle? Because we’re off school grounds, does he have any right to demand that he see it?
And also, if I were to bring in a bottle during the next game with say, urine, in it, is it:
1. Legal to have a bottle of urine in public, and
2. Legal for him to demand to see my bottle?
Thanks! 🙂
