Rhh: What Do You Think About My Argument With My Brother About Rick Ross?

My brother generally dislikes rap (with a few exceptions), and for some reason today he felt it necessary to tell me out of the blue, “You really need to stop listening to rap.” Naturally, my first response was to ask why.
The first (and only) example of a bad rapper my brother brought up was Rick Ross. He stated that Rick Ross is “unimaginative”, “raps in the same voice all the time”, “says ‘Rozay!’ in most of his songs”, and is only good because of his production. He also said that Rick Ross is a good lyricist.
First, I asked my brother to name a couple songs where Ross says “Rozay!” He thought about it, said Lord Knows (by Drake) and couldn’t name anymore. I told him that an obvious example would have been King of Diamonds since the whole chorus is, in fact, simply Ross repeating “Rozay!” But clearly my brother was unfamiliar with the song.
I can agree that the production is a big part of why I can enjoy Ross’ music. Lyrically, not really, and I had to laugh when my brother said that Ross was good lyrically. Not to say Ross can’t be good when he actually tries, but I doubt my brother has listened to Free Mason or Rich Forever either, so I’m not sure where he got that from.
But even when Ross isn’t trying, he can still be entertaining. My brother disagrees, and finds Ross’ voice boring and monotonous. Personally, I see nothing wrong with having a consistent voice. It’s not like Ross is delivering a class lecture; it’s a 16 bar verse. He’s recognizable and can certainly change up his voice when he pleases.
As for Ross being “unimaginative”, I see no problem with this either. What’s wrong with making music that doesn’t push some musical boundary? Not everything has to be an attempt to revolutionize music. Ross fills a niche, and he does it well. I brought up the song Hold Me Back (my brother has heard this song) because I felt like it is song that serves a certain purpose. It’s become my personal “pump-up” song for playing video games, and my stepbrother openly shares this sentiment. My brother says that repeating “Deez n!ggas won’t hold me back” over and over isn’t good music, while I think the repetition is great because it takes my mind off the lyrics and lets me focus on gaming while still giving a blood rush.
After this, my brother finished with, “You people (by this, I assume he means Rick Ross fans) are fake.” I tried to ask him what he meant by “fake”, and he responded “Made in China” ಠ_ಠ
The conversation ended after I pushed for him to explain himself and he abruptly changed the topic by talking about some TV show, which I responded to by walking away.
I’m sure I come off as biased, but everything here is what was discussed, although I don’t have a transcript of the conversation so you’ll just have to take my word for it. My question is, regardless of your own thoughts on Rick Ross, did I make a decent argument? I’m hardly the biggest Ross fan, but I do feel like my brother voiced a couple ignorant opinions that he really couldn’t back up, and he backed out when it went downhill. I don’t think anyone could possibly agree with his argument, but if you do, please feel free to say so and explain why.
Inb4 “tl;dr”
BQ: Have you ever been in a similar situation, where you tried to argue with someone who knew relatively little about rap and/or had misconceptions about it?
BQ2: General thoughts on Rick Ross?
BQ3: By separating the question into paragraphs instead of one big wall of text, did it make it easier for you to read?

For The Sake Of Argument So What If President Obama Is A Muslim?

Besides giving the green light to take out Osama Bin Laden on May 1, 2011, 15 of the most important leaders in al Qaeda have been killed under President Obama. Al Qaeda’s deputy Yahya al Libi was killed in June 2012. Ali al-Shihri the deputy leader of al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen was also killed.
President Obama authorized the killing of the radical Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen who had contact with both the Fort Hood shooter and the underwear bomber. Al-Awlaki was killed along with Samir Khan on September 30, 2011
Sept. 2009 President Obama also authorized a U.S. commando attack in Somalia that killed Saleh Ali Nabhan an al Qaeda operative who took part in the 1998 attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
President Obama has given the order to take out terrorist in Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan.
FYI every single one of them were Muslims.

Why Do Some Independent Voters Believe The Usa Is A Monarchy?

For a while now I’ve come across people who identify themselves as independent voters. Either they’ve always been independent or were once affiliated to Democrats or Republicans. I’ve heard a good number of them call-in on C-Span’s Washington Journal(call-in show to discuss pol. topics). They usually state Obama “promised this and that or he hasn’t done enough”.
This particular argument confuses me because it sounds like they believe the US is a monarchy, that the President has the sole authority on laws and decisions. Did they forget about the Senate and House? The President can have the intentions of doing something but if he doesn’t have the votes it isn’t going to happen, right?

Rink Coaching Policies?

I was wondering what are the policies for coaching at your rinks. Hope this doesn’t get too confusing. I have this friend who started coaching intermediate freestyle at my rink. He in turn has a friend who’s a high level skater but not a coach who teaches him for free just because he’s nice. One day they get into an argument over use of the rink’s training room with some of the older but lower level coaches. The older coaches then go complain to the management. The management rules that there will be absolutely no free coaching, and my friend will have to pay $90/hr if he still wants his friend to teach him. If his friend doesn’t want the money for teaching, the rink will just take it all. I think that’s really unfair because it’s a personal issue what you do with the ice time you pay for as long as you’re not bothering anybody or doing something dangerous. There are no special sessions like freestyle and such at my rink so it’s not like they’re breaking any rules. It’s like saying you can’t help out a friend during practice – all you can do is skate by yourself. Of course the management has money on their minds because they get a percentage of the coaching fee. As for the older coaches, I think it’s just a matter of jealousy because my friend went from single axels to training double axels and triple salchows within a few months while most of the older coaches can’t even manage an axel. My friend will probably move to a different rink to get away from the older coaches, however since the rinks are affiliated, he still can’t have free lessons.

Christians/catholics, Why Be Offended?

I was having a discussion with a Christian affiliate, deploring him of his one-sided argument and ways, so I told him “Harry Potter died for your sins! Show some respect, muggle!” He thought this was way out of line, and I hardly see why. Time and time again people have told me that “Jesus died for your sins” why can’t I use the same response only in reference to Harry Potter. Both are true; Harry Potter did indeed sacrifice his life to protect wizards and muggles alike from Lord Voldemort, so why be offended?? I am not belittling your faith, we just happen to invest our faith in different venues, can’t we respect that?

What’s The Right Thing To Do In This Situation, Facebook, Work And Your Girlfriend?

My girlfriend and I just had an argument because she learned that she was on my secondary/professional Facebook account and not the one with my real friends. Here’s the situation: I met my girlfriend at my work. So I gave her the FB information I give all my work colleagues as it is HR friendly. When she learned that my best friend, an ex, and all of my family were linked to another FB account, she sent a FB request which I denied because her account is infested with friends from work who I don’t want to see my college photos, my football team antics or costumed insanity with my nieces and nephews at family reunions and such.
I told her I would friend her on my real FB account if she unfriended everyone from all the companies with which our company is affiliated. This upset her.
What’s the right thing to do in this situation?
