I used to be one of the top students in my class and in my small “niche” when I was young. However, the older I got, the more I started to wonder what the whole point was. I easily used to get 95-100% on assignments or tests in the beginning of the year in highschool, then kind of taper off because of burnout since my physique was my most major weakness at that time. Up until then, my parent’s pressure kept me going, as well as personal interest in my studies. I enjoyed my teachers who seemed to be great motivators and mentors.
I would see certain students with 97% averages (I was friends with one of them) and kind of wonder what the whole point was trying to “be the best”. People who did this were not necessarily happier people and all the hard work and drive to prove superiority or higher achievement over another would lead to a short term feeling of satisfaction of “proving that one’s better”. Then if you were to go to the top, you would go through all the stress, competition and pain trying to maintain it…until you find another person better than you and the whole process would repeat itself. It doesn’t always necessarily mean that these people are necessarily better people either. The ones I’ve met were downright narcissistic on a pathological level (and lie to preserve a perfect image), were obnoxious, and generally not well liked either.
So what motivates these cutthroat competitive people? Their short term feeling of satisfaction of “superiority”? All that hard work, strained relationships, all for that? Or is it to please their parents?
Just wondering what you think of this.

. A population of foxes experiences an exponential growth. After this period of growth, the birth rate within the population slows down. What has happened within the population? The population has gone through ecological succession. The environment of the population has most likely reached its carrying capacity.
The population has experienced competitive exclusion. The habitat of the population has experienced population dispersion.
14. Which type of population dispersion is shown below?
even random
clumped sparse
15. Which of the following factors is an example of interspecies competition? a population of zebras and a population of wildebeests grazing in the same region a population of wild horses that share a watering hole
a pack of wolves that hunt deer and moose a population of penguins that feed on fish
16. Lily and her classmates decide to plant a garden at a local park. Lily decides that it would be a good idea to investigate the local plant life of the region before the class plants the garden. Why does Lily investigate local plant life before her class decides what vegetation to plant? Lily wants to make sure that the class does not plant exotic or nonnative plants in the garden. Introduced species can be harmful to local habitats. Lily wants to make sure that the class plants only nonnative vegetation, so that the plants will not have to compete for resources within the environment.
Lily wants to make sure that the plants will be able to survive in the local environment. Lily wants to make sure that the native plants will not interfere with the growth of the class’s garden.
17. The fungus on the ear of corn in the image below is called corn smut. If an ear of corn is infected with the fungus, it has to be destroyed, or it could spread and cause harm to the entire population. The fungus found on the ear of corn is an example of _____.
natural selection genetic drift
a limiting factor gene flow
18. Which of the following populations is the most likely to have reached its carrying capacity? a population of birds that inhabit a large forest where resources are abundant and competition is low a population of birds that inhabit a small, wooded area where resources are scarce and competition is high
a population of birds that inhabit a small, wooded area where resources are abundant and competition is high a population of birds that inhabit a large forest where resources are limited and competition is low
19. Which of the following is the most likely outcome for a community that has multiple species with high population density? The species within the community will experience genetic drift because of the limited habitat space. The species within the community will undergo mutation to better adapt to the limited habitat space.
The species within the community will share niches to better adapt to the limited habitat space. The species within the community will experience high levels of interspecies competition over habitat space that could lead to competitive exclusion.
20. Why do populations that have clumped population dispersion compete and rely on each other more than organisms that live in populations with even and random dispersion? The organisms in even or random populations generally do not require the same resources. The organisms that live in clumped populations generally do not require the same resources.
The organisms that live in clumped populations share a more compact habitat space. Organisms that live in even or random populations experience greater interspecific competition.
21. Why does the presence of mimicry reflect how interactions shape community structure? Mimicry limits the ability of predators to find food. Mimicry exists only in communities that experience high competition.
Mimicry increases prey survival, increasing the food supply for predators. Mimicry only develops as a result of the interactions that exist between predators and prey in a community.
22. Mycorrhizae are a type of fungi that grow on the roots of plants. In order to survive, the fungus must attach itself to a host. In turn, the fungus produces high amounts of nitrogen that is released into the soil and helps the host plant grow and complete life functions. Which type of relationship best describes this interaction? mutualism parasitism
commensalism predation
23. The polar bear population is found naturally only in the extremely cold climate of the Arctic Circle. As a result, the polar bear has adapted in several ways to make it better suited to living in these climates. Which of the following is an adaptation that is a result of the polar bear’s cold climate?
its massive size, which helps it overpower prey the long hair found between the pads of its feet, which helps it walk on icy surfaces
the stiff hairs found on its hind legs and broad paws, which help it swim

I met this wonderful girl in high school, we were just friends and we talked more than often, but only my third period class. I admit I had a crush on her and I don’t know if she liked me or not. But I never made a move on her, and she dated someone else who was gang affiliated. So i stopped talking to her and I moved on, but now she wants to talk to me again. She glances at me when I walk near her, she yells my name in the hallway, and we’re more like hi and bye friends now. could this mean she likes me, because I’ve moved on and I don’t want to go back into the past. What should I do?

Coca-Cola is a popular soft drink, it plays a big role in our culture due it’s wide availability, there is a 98% chance that it is available at the nearest shop. Coca-Cola is available in every country in the world with the exception of Cuba, North-Korea, Sudan, Iran and Burma. Coca-Cola is known for containing lots of sugar and due it’s symbolism of America and pairing together with fast-food it is also widely known for being junk-food and a drink for fat people. Nobody knows what Coca-Cola contains exactly, but it is known that it contains: caffeine, sugar, carbonated water and caramel but the exact composition and recipe remains secret. only 5 people in the world know the recipe and they never travel together to increase the chance that they won’t die all at the same time. Some people say it’s secret to remain the head of the market while others say it’s secret because of disturbing contents that is might hold.

Up until the end of middle school, I had a nice, tight group of smart friends. I was in band school, as well as other clubs. I made all A’s without fail. But towards the end I started to become very concious about how I looked, and started only wearing hoodies because I thought I was fat and unattractive. By the time high school started, some of my friends split into different schools, and all I cared about was fitting in. I tried to dress like the popular black girls at my school (even though I am nothing like them, I’m what you call an “oreo”), I tried to act like them and hang around with them. But I still felt so out of place and lonely all the time. I cried often. I didn’t go out on the weekends. My grades were slipping and soon B’s and C’s were common. Sophomore year was a little better, but I still often felt lonely and wasn’t involved in anything out of school.
Now I’m nearing the end of my Junior year, and I’ve grown so much as a person. I’m a lot more comfortable in my own skin and with my appearance, I’m VERY outgoing and funny at school. I don’t care anymore at all about fitting in with “cool kids”. I still really like dressing well, and people know me for that. However, I’m still lonely. The friends I used to be close to in middle school are now very high up and successful, one is even number 1 in our class, while I’m all the way at 101 out of 446. I’m only in two clubs and I’m not very active in them. I have many acquaintances but not a solid group of friends. I often find myself walking or sitting alone, and I think people get the impression that I think I’m too good for people because of how I dress or look, but that’s not true at all! Most of the smart kids I see around in their little groups of friends, I’m so jealous of and would do anything to be friends with them!
I hate that I’ve let myself steer so far from where I belong, now I feel so lost and unsuccessful, with no true friends. I am nowhere near pleased with my GPA or class rank, and I hate that it’s due to me getting distracted and wanting to fit in, that I’ve gotten those grades. I wish I was in sports, & many clubs, & helping the community, & I wish I would have stuck with the smart, great friends I had before, as well as found more. Now we’re so apart, they’ve all found their niche while I’m the lost black sheep, and no one can even tell because of how confident and funny I act in classes, but really I’m so lonely all the time. I don’t know what to do, and I feel like it’s too late to make a big change.

Moving (chapter 1)
Have you ever had to move away from your friends? Have you ever had to move for the people you know? Well if you have you know how hard it is, but if not here is my story.
It all started when me and my family, went to Canada in the February half term. We stayed in Toronto. The weather was hot and the people were so friendly. One day we visited a small country Market on the outskirts of town, on our way we stopped at a small village, all of the houses looked identical a yellow coloured brick work and a grey slated roof, one of he houses was up for sale, mum really liked the look of it and arranged for a viewing. Despite this meaning to be a family holiday for my little brothers birthday, all we have been doing is going back and forth this one house. It would be great to move here but what about my friends, family and school. mum has always wanted to live somewhere it doesn’t rain just after Coming out of the hair salon, or when your in your local supermarket and people push in front of you in the queue, so this would be hard to pursued her to quit while she was ahead.
We got home on the Saturday and mum has already arranged for the house to be valued and she is meeting with very posh estate agents who wear long black trousers and a White shirt or a pleated blouse. Everything is happening so fast.
Monday came so quick, I knew I had to tell my friend that I might be moving away, as I walked alone into school grounds the rain was dripping out of my hair and down my face but that didn’t matter, i was more worried about what I was going to tell my them, I can’t just drop a bombshell on them like that. I made my way into the school hall, as I got in through the door, snaked my hair dry. I push my way through the crowds of people and bumped into on of my friends chloe,
“how was your holiday? Did you have a good time?” she shouted trying to get her voice above the crowds. You would think I was at a rock concert. luckily I the bell went and I didn’t have to answer, but now the not so lucky bit, the crowds of people were pushing like it was feeding time at the zoo. We made our way to class, all of the other students in my class looked like pale ghosts compared to the people back in Toronto, I saw my friends on the large round desk at the back of the classroom I grabbed a stool and sat next to them.
“So how was your holiday? What did you do ?” Chloe always is the one to ask questions,
” I had a great time, I stayed in a big hotel with a pool, the sun was so bright and it was so hot,” ok now for the lies I thought ” we went to the beach every day, we went to a theme park and went to a water park, it was amazing.” I had to lie, if I told them I might moving on the first day of term they would be crushed. I managed to get through the day without telling anyone my big secret, but when the bell rang and the end of the day, I walked home alone as usually but before I could escape Chloe came chasing after me,
“Are you ok ? It’s just you have been very quiet today, and that’s not the you I know,” she had her arm around my shoulder, making sure I didn’t go anywhere before she had a answer,
“yes I’m fine, I just got a bit of a headache that’s all,” I rubbed my head to make it more realistic, she loosened her arm from around my shoulders
“if there is anything wrong though, you can talk to me.” I nodded my head, and started to walk away. I made my way along the muddy, damp field to get to my house.
