The city of San Juan Capistrano, California is laying heavy fines on a local couple for hosting semi-regular bible readings in their home. From the Los Angeles CBS affiliate:
Homeowners Chuck and Stephanie Fromm, of San Juan Capistrano, were fined $300 earlier this month for holding what city officials called “a regular gathering of more than three people”.
That type of meeting would require a conditional use permit as defined by the city, according to Pacific Justice Institute (PJI), the couple’s legal representation.
The Fromms also reportedly face subsequent fines of $500 per meeting for any further “religious gatherings” in their home, according to PJI…

We have land in Northern Illinois and are considering starting a cemetery. We’ve tried selling our land for the past two years and not gotten any offers. Our land is next to a cemetery and a church. The cemetery has burial plots, but not any places for created remains really except in the ground. The cemetery isn’t full, but it’s probably 80-90% full. So I was thinking if we got a conditional use permit to do a cemetery, that we could put in those columbaria’s where you put cremated remains. Does anyone know if doing that would be a profitable business? Does anyone know how those niches get sold? Would we contact funeral directors with the info about them and they would sell them for us for a percentage? Would any funeral directors be willing to talk to me about this? Please email me at tyblossom on aol. I’d really appreciate any thoughts or idea about this. We really need to find a way to make this land work for us. It’s 4 acres and we figure we could start slowly and expand. Also, I’m curious if anyone knows how we find out besides the conditional use permit, how we would figure out what license or registering we’d have to do and how you set something up so that for the life of a cemetery it would be taken care of and maintained. Thanks!!! I really need to talk to you if you know about this.
