The four conference plan would have had greater support if the NHL added two new teams. The NHLPA rejected the plan as they were given little information about it.
Below is a very good article on why revenue sharing is essential in the next CBA between the NHL and the NHLPA. 7 out of the 9 teams in the Western and Southern markets are losing money.
