I have been offered the job of Technical Services Engineer in Perth. The job is very niche and involves technical support, training and consultancy for software in the engineering sector. I have over 13 years experience in this area and I have been offered a sponsorship through a company based in Sydney. They are very confident that I will get the 457 visa.
However, what worries me is if I decide to stay in Australia and apply for permanent residency. The company seems quite confident I would have no problem in obtaining this. However, I am not so sure.
If I apply for permanent residency do I need a degree in close to me profession i.e engineering? I have degree in English (2-2) however I do have over 13 years experience.
Would this affect my chances of obtaining permanent residency?

I have secured 60% aggregate in my engineering have 52% in my 12 th standard in science subjects and 74% in my class 10th, I aspire to go to AUT, Auckland University of Technology , please let me know what all courses of 1 year can i opt for there as a post graduate diploma in IT field which would make eligible for applying for a PR there and also seeing my performance please let me know that whether the Auckland university would accept me as a student or will I have to opt for some different college. Also i would like to know the career prospects in computers and IT there as per the PG diploma I do there. Please also give me an approximation of how much does an average person earn there in an year if one gets the PR. Please feel free to add your valuable suggestions if I have forgotten to ask some details. Like what all are the govt. people looking for in a student for the Visa and eventually for giving the PR.
Thanks in advance.
