Is The X-factor Bad For Music?

All it does is create karaoke singers who just become clones of whatever the market needs. They have a shelf life of a few years before they are fazed out and replaced with a new X-Factor star.
The live shows guest stars are predominately previous contestants or affiliated to Simon Cowell some other way.
It’s just music for fans of the Music Industry rather than fans of Music itself.

The X factor is just bad in general.

  2. Kitty says:

    I totally agree.
It amazes me that they can interview thousands of people from all over Britain, and yet by the end of the show, the best they can come up with is Alexandra Burke etc.
    Shocking.

Yes – because if your a new artist trying to get your big break you may be overshadowed by the x-factor.
No – because for music producers it provideds an opportunity to find new upcomers which they can take advantage of. Specifically pop producers.

x factor is a croc o shite!!they should call it zooming in on useless celebrity faces for facial expressions,or is cheryl cole gonna cry?stupid rehearsed gurning noggin of simon cowell and chums, its all rehearsed and set up i detest it.anyone who thinks the x factor is good to watch must be dead in the heart and brain!!

  5. CRiiMSONN. x3 says:

Yes. X-Factor is crap. Have you noticed that every winner brings out one album, and then disappears for three years, and comes back? ;]
Of course, it’s bad for the music industry. :]
I reccomend you watch the musical ‘We Will Rock You’, if yuu haven’t alreadyy. ;D I think you would enjoy it. :] It’s on Youtube.

I know where you’re coming from, but the shows are very popular and nobody has to watch TV in our countries. They are not my “cup of tea” either, and I used to think it was all a big waste of time, but an Ex GF did get me watching American Idol a little and a couple of the singers were actually really good, had talent and some artistic merit.
It would, however, be good if there was more musical education of a wide range of influences in the schools. Other than that people will find the good music and 13 year old girls will still freak out over…..X.

  7. Blade Runner says:

The X factor in my opinion a rubbish show, it gives people false hope and encourages them to make a fool of themselves. If they have some ‘talent’ then Simon Cowell uses them up until they become redundant and moves on to someone else.
Who remembers the first winner of the show?
As for music yeah it is bad as cause there is no originality.

  8. Whitey says:

Yeah, although it was pretty good for Rage Against the Machine last Christmas!!
I’m only been watching it this year because I wanted to see Cheryl collapse, and for that fist fight last week, just for the lols. After that, I’m turning it off.

  9. Reba says:

Yes, there are a lot of people that are awful. BUT what about people like Leona Lewis. How can artists like her gain exposure if their labels keep dropping them?
Why ask our opinions about whether the x factor is bad for music and then just say what you already believe? It’s not like you’re even interested in what we have to say.

  10. Ailish says:

You’re exactly right. It contaminates the music charts and allows for other crap like that to do well. We should try to beat the ‘X Factor Christmas number one’ again this year. With rock music. Its bad for young kids too. They think that its great and easy to become a ‘pop star’. Its not and shouldn’t be. It also encorages them to laugh at people

  11. SpaceRok says:

    Yes it is.
I believe that Stock, Aitken & Waterman started the ball rolling back in the eighties. They released so much garbage by the likes of Kylie, Jason, Rick Astley etc, etc. It was just bubblegum pop for bubble headed airheads. The X-Factor, Pop Idol, American Idol are all merely variations on the same theme, but with the added ridicule factor in the opening stages. These kind of shows have been hugely responsible for killing off real bands, both in live, and recording situations. People like Cowell should be taken out at dawn and shot.
