Was t to niche orietated. Michael Jackson himself cound’t accept that it didn’t do as well as he thought it would.
I mean it was when he was first doing music on his own it had a couple of great tracks on it such as rock with you and Dont stop til you get enough but I guess at that time people werent really into it
Well it was the first album ever to have 4 singles on the billboard top 10. And it sold 20 million records, being 8x platinum. But I do see what you’re saying. It was more niche, or urban oriented. Whereas Thriller was more pop-ish which attracted more demographics.
But some today will still argue that Off the Wall was his best solo album and it should have been more successful than Thriller.
I think Off The Wall was really good but that is a good point about it appealing to mostly African Americans. It had more of a soul and r&b sound. Thriller was more successful because it reached a wider audience.
