hey there, i am pregnant and on medical but my work wants me to sign up through them so what company can i go with that will accept me even though i’m pregnant? i guess another question would be can i stay on medical to be covered through the pregnancy even with my works insurance? i live in orange county california and would really like to stay with my doctor so i need either any ppo or any hmo that is st josephs affiliated. any advice would be helpful here. thank you in advance.
As long as you dont have a lapse in coverage your work’s insurance company will have to cover you.
Read the information your company gives you on the insurance, most likely you’ll be able to go to a website to verify that your doctor is on their network. This is not something Yahoo Answers can answer for you.
i see your in orange county, so i assume you mean medi-cal. if you really must take an insurance from your work (assuming that they will since you are pregnant), just remember the difference between a ppo and an hmo. With PPOs you can pick your doctor(s) and you don’t need a referral to see a specialist. Sounds good but you usually have to pay a co-pay AND a percentage for every bill, most are 20%. delivery alone is $10,000 or more X 20%…
with an HMO you need to pick a primary physician (you can pick your gynecologist) and need to see your primary for a referral… say you think you need to see a neurologist or surgeon. all that would be required (for most hmo’s) is your usual co-pay and your doctor making the specialist appt.
it all depends on which company the insurance is being offered through. maybe there is a website where you can compare insurance? also remember that medi-cal can be your secondary since you already have it. it will pick up other billed costs.
good luck.
I believe that an insurance company will cover you even if your pregnant. Can you keep Medi-cal.. if it’s the same thing as medicad I don’t beleive so. You can find all of this out from your human resourse dept at work. They can also let you know which insurance plan just about everyone else has with the compnay. My company offers 8 different companies to choose from. Mostly everyone uses the same company(because the beneifits are best with the most popular company). Talk to someone in human resources, they should be able to point you in the right direction! Say you decide to pick insurance company A, ask to see the health care providers book and see if your doctor is a participating doctor. Most large insurance company’s are excepted with a lot of doctors. Good luck.
