I watched part of this documentary about how second-hand clothes from the US end up in Africa. Apparently the Salvation Army doesn’t even unpack most of their clothing donations, they SELL them to dealers in Africa who mark them up 400%. This industry has put almost all of the domestic clothing manufacturing out of business and a lot of people who had those skills are out of jobs, many of them gone from hand-making traditional clothing to selling second-hand US clothes at markets. Would people still donate to the Salvation Army if they knew what they were really doing?
Not to mention the whole “we don’t hire gays” policy but that’s another story …

My girlfriend and I just had an argument because she learned that she was on my secondary/professional Facebook account and not the one with my real friends. Here’s the situation: I met my girlfriend at my work. So I gave her the FB information I give all my work colleagues as it is HR friendly. When she learned that my best friend, an ex, and all of my family were linked to another FB account, she sent a FB request which I denied because her account is infested with friends from work who I don’t want to see my college photos, my football team antics or costumed insanity with my nieces and nephews at family reunions and such.
I told her I would friend her on my real FB account if she unfriended everyone from all the companies with which our company is affiliated. This upset her.
What’s the right thing to do in this situation?

I work for a company who is launching a new product, and we can’t find any sort of basis for figuring out how much we need to spend… Like do we need to do 100 grand in advertising several times in different magazines, and 40k in radio advertising? Or should we just spend a few thousand dollars here and there on a few niche ads?
I know it depends a lot on the product, but it is a completely new product to market (something different than anything else out there).
How do we determine how much advertising we really need to do?
We just met with 3 ad firms who all said the same thing- “we don’t tell you how much, just what and where” is pretty much what I’ve gotten. That was my answer to our dillemma, which didn’t help.
