Am I Being Hypocritical In Being A Vegetarian?

Somebody raised the point that i was in dialogue with. that i’m being hypocritical in being vegetarian yet the clothes & metal i’ve purchased more than likely has affiliates with child labour or slave labour.
That my idea of compassion to all sentient beings wasn’t fully sound.
My only retort was ”because i can’t do everything doesn’t mean i shouldn’t do something where possible, & vegetarian is an effective way where as finding a slave/child-labour free clothing or metal would be much more harder to find.”

not as far as i can tell. vegetarian just means you dont eat anything that has at some point had a face… so as long as you dont eat meat you should be fine

I just got a $949.95 Dell laptop (17 inch) for $137.32 and if you think that’s an awesome deal, my neighbor just got a 42 inch HDTV for $76.25 that’s being delivered tomorrow to his house. It feels great not to pay high retail like the rest of the people. I am even selling some of the stuff at retail to my co-workers making 10 times my money back. Not eating previously live sentient beings is a personal choice and does not equate using items that were tied to non-compassionate acts towards sentient beings. I know this is an unpopular thing to point out but the children who are being exploited at low wages and work standards are providing somewhat to their families survival and would have less if these jobs were not present. I am not in favor of exploitation but remember it does not take a lot to survive in their countries. It is not the equivalent of children here working for pennies a day. Have compassion for these people and all sentient beings and you are not being hypocritical.

    No, not hypocritical at all.
Everything that is done, is something.
Being a vegetarian at least means that you do not contribute to the world’s greatest polluter of all: the meat industry.
Being a vegetarian also keeps you vigilant for all sorts of other abuse.
Because really, what sort of argument is that, “your clothes are affiliated with child labour”? Is that an excuse for these people to do nothing at all? How cynical is that?
