I am a 21 year old white guy. What is there really to be proud of in america. we came here killed thousands of people to steal the land. enslaved Indian’s and blacks to do all the work. when freedom was granted it was still bull sh** freedom. our government has the biggest history of f****ing with 3rd world country’s in the guise of humanitarian intervention but has always secretly been in the name of capitalism, to make sure we had a foreign market for our goods. If citizens want change in the country it takes years and years of peaceful protest and then the government does just enough to shut us up. Most nations in the world hate us because of what our leaders choose to do. Has anyone watched “Secrets of the CIA”? They admit all the wrong they do just to fund their operations from drug sales to arms sales. If we don’t like a leader we help some B.S. dictator take over because he will do more of what we want, then we let them run free in the country usually resulting in the death of thousands of people. If you don’t know what i’m talking about just read “A Peoples History of the United States” by Howard Zinn. or watch “Secrets of the CIA”. After watching that video and all af the absolutely illegal, inhumane, and absurd things things they did on behalf of the us government or in the name of American interests (which is again usually capitalism, that only the elite in america benefit from) I have to wonder….. If we obviously know what they have done why do we still have a CIA?
Next: I do not vote… Why? because I get B.S. options. no one really cares about me or anyone I know. It cost a heep of money to have a successful campaign, so the president elects have to make sure they keep all the rich people happy so they will fund their campaign…. does not sound like a proper democracy to me… They find ways for government officials to launder money and tax cuts for the super rich, but the only way they can balance the budget is to take from education. I am not a genius or anything, but wouldn’t it make sense to invest as much as possible into the education of the future generations??? That way when all the old guys die we are not left with a bunch of idiots who cant afford school. But o yeah we cant because we are to busy pumping billions and billions…… and billions into military. I understand we need a strong military especially how messed up the world is, but I don’t understand how they screw the really important thing… American freedom and overall happiness of the nation.
I am just saying that it seams to me there is really no reason to be proud of my country. The only people who are truly free are the rich people and the politicians. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer but the only ones who care are the poor.
Im sure someone will talk about all the freedoms we have……… well all threought my life I was made to believe that we are the only place that is free. What about all of the other western nations??? France citizens appear to have just as much freedom as me. plus their education and healthcare is free. I would love to get out of here but unfortunately I was born in the bottom class of society and will probably never be able to change that.
By the way why does it seem all americans are so pissed about immigration? I understand when people come from mexico to make money and take back with them.. But it seems to me that everyone wants to stop people from moving here when even the founding fathers were illegal immigrants themselves.
Not to seem like i’m just bashing america but I just cant find anything good in our true history. everything we have overcome from slavery and so forth is just stuff our leaders or we have done to ourselves.
Does anyone feel the same? I look up these topics online and it I cant find many similar opinions. If your opinion differs from mine please post just keep it appropriate.

Why Should I Be Proud To Be American?

With all power comes consequence. But it seems you’ve been ingrained with an overdose of white guilt. Has there definitely been failures in our social structure,…why certainly. Is America nothing but a failure….well, hell no.
American law is based off British common law, but the advent of America political thought was really a desire to move past the automatic aristocracy of the old. It was based of the rural and independent population of the Americas. This coming to make a federalist society, where most issues were dealt with on a local level and those issues federal in nature…were dealt with in that manner.
With the creation of individual rights as a concept and a republic w/ a heavy democratic nature…there came a robust growth in industry. Before this, a huge percentage of children didn’t even live beyond 5 years of age. Living standards in America and Britain rose, as the countries found their middle ground of industrialism/capitalism and social safety nets/progressive elements.
Without the key elements that make America, america…technology and life wouldn’t sustain at current levels. Are there negative consequences to technology, extended life and the demand of high standards….sure there are. Especially when those elements aren’t wholly adopted by other societies and aren’t throughly reviewed as to their nature and effects (here).
I am not trying to insult you, but it seems like you live in a vacuum of political thought; where you read a few books, but you don’t understand the nature of power. A quick example. A baby knows very little and has little power…while a parent has a lot. So who is to dominate in most cases and if there are millions who will get the bad wrap. Obviously the parents; but does that mean they’re all bad or that there isn’t anything beneficial to gain out of their position and capabilities?
Read the ’48 laws of power’. Ponder over your morality and whether or not it really is ‘yours’. I love this country and I wouldn’t want to be BORN in many other places. We’re not perfect, but like any other parent…we’re trying. Zealotry is place for cult of minds but moderate thinkers are those who are really open to what the universe truly is. Good luck in finding that middle ground…
If you have to be told what to be, then you do not deserve to be an American and you are free to leave at your earliest convenience.
You are welcome to leave, we don’t have room for you…we’ll help you pack and don’t let your free country’s door hit you in the butt on the way out.
Why indeed? You might feel relieved to be American and not, for example, Somali, but why proud of genealogy and history in which you took no part?
I don’t think I would feel comfortable to be a citizen of a country regarded by so much of the world as quite simply The Enemy, or – as most British people see you – a hated imperial master that bribes our political ‘leaders’, irrespective of party, to be your crawling collaborators in an imperialist campaign of world domination.
And just on a point of information – I don’t feel comfortable about most of my country’s history either – but at least I can say that we stood alone against the Nazis, while America stood back making profits out of a heroic anti-fascist struggle, and did not join in until we and our real friends, the Canadians and Australians, had made sure the Nazis would not win.
Your ignorance knows no bounds. If you hate this country so much then leave. I’ll help you pack.
You three obviously didn’t take time to read the freaking question! All you read was the freaking title to the question OR you are a bunch of young kids who knows absolutely NOTHING about your government!!! It’s easy to say leave, we’ll help you..only a bunch of uneducated people will give the same boring answer. Blah…Anyway….answer to your question is coming…..
The government has some nerve acting like they care about what happens to “The People”. Please the only people who isn’t hurting is the rich. All people ever want to say it leave the country…oh yea okay easy enough. Unfortunately I’m not rich so it would be hard but if you want to REALLY pay my way to leave then I would gladly accept your offer. If you know your history and know the truths about your so called government then you wouldn’t be a proud American. But you guys probably are the same ones looking at the celebrities pictures thinking how much you want to be the next Jersey Shore star. There’s so much stuff people should look into before deciding if you are a PROUD AMERICAN! If you are proud that your country takes from the poor, and kill innocent people in other countries then so be it!
And your right about the voting. We get to vote between two dumb asses. We get told every time how this person will do this and that but no one really does anything for us regular common folk…ONLY if you have money. I advise all to READ your history on this so called GREAT country. And no I don’t mean the bull they teach in school. And freedom, yea we all have freedom NOW. I won’t even touch base on that. Let’s just say I’m happy there were actually people who realize that EVERYONE should have freedom. It’s just ashamed that it actually took fighting and killing for everyone to have the same human right. Talk about a country to be proud of.
