It’s hardly reasonable to attribute a credit rating downgrade to the president. At most, he deserves a third of the blame. The other 2/3s belong to Congress. Realize that they’re the ones in control of the budget as well, meaning they’re the ones who required a debt ceiling increase in the first place. Realize also that it was internal bickering in the House and Senate that was the focal point of this entire debate, and therefore the reason that the S&P felt we would be unable to deal with future debts effectively.
