in an article I have to read and present they discuss niche over lap but they never explain what this means. Does it mean that the species is over lapping with other species or its just over lapping old territory or it will be invasive?

Yea it depends, if the question is asking about niche competing species.
They are basically fighting to occupy the same place and resources. They could be similar species in which case you would call them synpatric, or they could be different species that use the same resources. A good example are birds which often compete for the same food and nesting habitats.
Not really sure if this answers your question, or what your question is really asking for to be of more help.
