Hi guys, i really need your a good and effectivr advice about this, please if you know something that would help post it here!
Im 20 year old, have a car Peugeot 206 1.1 litre – cheap market value (£1000ish). I live in London. Since 17 years old im looking for insurance – unsuccessfully. The best quote i get is 4000ish. I have no criminal record, no accidents no claims – nothing! And im fed up with so many people driving at my age and I cant- i just dont understand why exactly mine is so bloody expensive! Ive tried every variation just to see what im missing – pass plus for example only helps to the extent of £100. Its just crazy – 3 years and i still cant drive – what the hell is wrong with this – home come everyone is showing off by how cheap insurance they have and i cant get anything? Whats the secret?
Ive tried every combination – me as the main driver/named driver/owner/just user etc. cheapest is £4,000!! Whats wrong with me? Anybody knows whats the trick, how to solve this issue?
Thanks!
that sounds about avarage for your age (it gets cheaper as you get older and earn a no claims discount)
the best way of finding the cheapist quote is is on a compare site such as “go compare” and “compare the market”
but it wont be much cheaper
Grow up!!! No seriously.. once you hit 25… it drops dramatically.
Until then – get insured under your mom or dads name… if you do it with dial direct and some other insurance company(i can’t remember) you still get “no claims” bonus build up. I have the same issue… around £5000 per year for me on a peugeot 207. I’m a careful driver so my parents have put me on their insurance as a named driver tll I hit 25/26. I’m 24 now. I pay 48 quid a month now…
and next year it drops to £42. But I’ll be getting my own insurance by then.
A possibility is Aviva. I think they are trialling a system that installs an electronic box of tricks in your car that registers cornering speed, acceleration, harsh braking, time of day of use etc.
Should you use your car very little and keep all speed etc down , then your premiums will reduce as you will be seen to be a lower risk.
It is a fact of todays life that insurance for youngsters is very expensive.
Otherwise give up all hope of owning a car.
You are an expensive age for insurance, and you live in ana expensive area for insurance – so £4000 is about right until you are older and have a few years no claims bonus.
I know people do insure the car in parents name, with themselves as a named driver. It is cheaper. It is also illegal – and if you have an accident and the insurance company catch on to the situation you could find that your insurance wasn’t valid, you have to pay any and all damages yourself, you lose your car and your licence, and your parents get into trouble as well for lying about their insurance.
You are a new driver.
You are under 25 years old.
You live in London.
They are the three main reasons why your insurance is so expensive. The “trick” is to change at least one of those situations (but preferably all three…). There is no other way.
There isn’t one, this gets asked all the time on here.
Put the words “cheap car insurance” into the search box above your question and have a look at the 2000-odd answers there are already.
Short version, car insurance for teens is £3k+.
What Dave is suggesting is illegal. It’s called fronting.
If you’re the main driver you have to be insured as the main driver. If you do the insurance through your parents it’s fraud and voids your cover.
Your main problem is that you live in London.
