I am a black belt in Taekwondo and am thinking of joining a new dojang. It is called Korean Martial Arts Center and is located in San Francisco. The website is www.koreanmartialarts.com
I don’t think this place in a mcdojo due to its high credentials and high number of champions they train and quality private teaching time, but there are some signs.
It claims to teach Taekwondo, Hapkio, Tai Chi, Escrima, Judo, and traditional asian weapons, and the instructor adds “grandmaster” to his title and the school requires a one-year contract, that isn’t too expensive but is still suspicious, and they have a demo team and quite a few little kids.
Can someone tell me if this is a mcdojo? The “grandaster” actually has a 10th degree black belt in hapkido, an 8th dan in TKD and a 4th degree in judo, and is affiliated with WTF and SinMooHapkido and other organizations.
McDojo, or just an awesome dojang? Im looking for a legit well rounded martial arts school
It’s legit.
Why is a contract “suspicious”?
Why are kids classes suspect?
In judging a place, look at the quality of instructors.
Hope that helps.
