The first rule of buying a car is to not get carried away by how it looks.
Cars are like people in a way (not to be judged by looks but instead how reliable they are and at what).
Cars are very dependable to do one out of two things-
1. Keep you happy with them.
2. Take your money as long as you have any.
The secret is to find one that will take money from you slower then you earn it.
So the first place to start looking is a place that will give you an idea if the car has a fancy to spend your money. Of course purchase price is the biggest single item on the list of how fast cars eat up money. Insurance, taxes and fuel bills are also part of the picture. The part that should be a concern also is the question of will it be there when it is needed (or in the repair shop)?
So instead of checking out the paint, tires, sound systems and how pretty it smells- find information about how faithful the car is. Consumer Reports is a good place to check out just how dependable a car is and where it will be unfaithful to you. The new Buyers Guide should be out by now or will be soon. Now you don’t have to rush out and buy one (but if you are in the market it might be wise to do so) because they are in most public and school libraries in the reference section.
Look for a car you can afford that is as reliable as you can find based on accumulated information.
