Transferring To Uga, Sorority Affiliation?

I’m rushing at Georiga Southern University in the fall of 2013, which will be my third semester, then transferring to UGA in the spring of 2014 because of my major. I love a few of the sororities down here and am thinking of going PhiMu, ADPi, or AOPi. How do these sororities rank on UGA’s campus for when I affiliate? And how are the other soroities on UGA’s campus. I just don’t want to rush down at Southern with a sorority I love, then transfer and not love it at UGA for my next 5 semesters…

  1. Becca says:

So, you’ll be rushing as sophomore, and then transferring after a semester?
First – you cannot pay attention to rankings. Seriously, it does not matter at all, unless you’re really considered with it. Most guys don’t care, other girls don’t care, and if you join a sorority based on its rank, you’re in it for the wrong reasons.
Second – rush is a competitive process, especially in the South. If you’re a sophomore, it will be even more competitive. Most girls don’t ‘pick’ what houses they get. Sororities choose what girls they want to drop – so girls have an incorrect mindset going into rush that they can pick what they want ahead of time. It simply doesn’t work that way. Don’t keep thinking like that, or you may find yourself disappointed during recruitment.
Next – Sororities don’t always accept transfers. My chapter usually does, but we have voted a few down as well. So if you join a sorority as GSU with the intention of transferring to a “top” chapter at UGA.. that may not work, either. Just keep that in mind.
You can try looking at the Greek Rank page for both schools but most of the stuff on that site is just stereotypes/bashing/rumors/not true. You can also try looking at the facebook pages for each chapter – search something like “University of Georgia Phi Mu” and look through their pictures to get a feel for their chapter.
