I am planning on moving from my duplex to a cheaper apartment affiliated with my university. My original lease was from March 2012 until September 2012. I told my landlord I want to extend my lease, but never signed any paperwork for the extension. So, my question is, would it count as a broken lease if I moved out in January? Just curious, I may not move until this coming March. Thanks!
You’re not breaking your lease as you didn’t sign anything, however you still have to give proper notice to move out. In the US (nearly every state) you need to give a full months’ notice. If you were planning on moving out Dec 31st to move into a new place Jan 1, you should have given notice before the end of November.
Firstly, you have not signed any paper work and it will be called as broken lease if you have moved out in january!
