Antennas are really simple. The rules never change: Higher, Bigger, Pointed toward source, Fewer obstructions. There’s nothing magic nor secret. BTW, there’s no such thing as a “digital” TV antenna. That is just marketing hype.

First, there are no “digital” antennas. All TV antennas work the same, both the old and the new. Words like “digital” and “HD” associated with TV antennas is technical nonsense.
Now, to get the best reception:
1. Choose the antenna that’s right for your specific location. If you’re in the U.S., use the website below for guidance.
2. Mount it as high as possible.
3. Point it directly at the TV transmitter site. Use a rotor if your local TV transmitter sites are in different directions.
by using an outdoor antenna for one thing.
also altitude is your friend. line amplifiers only do so much, the best possible condition is on a pole outside.
You get a good antenna to start.
You mount it up high, preferably outdoors.
You aim it to best receive the stations you want.
