I say I am a buddhist but I don’t affiliate with a group, because I think that groups over complicate things. The only people I follow the teachings of are the Buddha himself and the Dalai Lama. (I know the Dalai Lama is Tibetan buddhist but I still like to hear what he has to say in terms of the Buddhas teachings). Is it ok to simply say that I am a Buddhist, and that my one true spiritual teacher is the buddha himself.
Yep. There is no compulsion in Buddhism to join sects or groups
Sure, it’s okay. I doubt those spiritual teachers wanted their teachings to be that over-complicated anyways.
Of course it is ok. Buddhism is a philosophy, it is not interested in “joiners”.
Yes. Do what you like. One good thing about Buddhism, and I have heard the Dalai Lama say it on television, Buddhists really don’t care what or how you believe. It is your journey and your karma.
yes it is ok.
Don’t worry im Buddhist too and it’s the same thing with me and my friend i believe it’s normal like non denomination Christians just with Buddhism
As from and agreeing with previous answers it is a Resounding “YES” it is OK
You can call yourself anything you like.
You can follow any teacher you like.
But if you’re not engaging in formal training under the guidance of a teacher, then you’re not getting the full benefit of the Buddha’s teachings.
Buddhist training – meditation, chanting, precepts, wisdom – provides the foundation for living with compassion and generosity and happiness. For over 2,500 years, those people who train in this way transform their lives; those who don’t train in this way remain stuck in anger, desire and confusion.
I’m sorry to appear contrarian but Buddhism has little to do with preferences.
Best wishes on your journey!
‘OK’ by who’s standards?
