Right now I’m deciding between two colleges and I really can’t choose. They are both colleges in the same city.
College A is a public school that I always had my sights set on before I found the other one. It is a huge school, with huge class sizes. It is the cheaper of the two. I like the amount of clubs and orgs on campus, but I’m not sure i want to be a nameless face in a crowd in classes. It has a highly ranked program for my selected major and has many great options I can choose from if I choose a different one. I already have friends here so I have connections for a social life. However when I visited, Im not sure i loved the campus vibe. I could probably find my niche, but I think it would be harder.
College B is a medium-small private school that is more expensive, about double the amount of loans, but they gave me a scholarship. It has a lot of wealthy students so I don’t know if I would feel out of place in that regard. Major wise, it has my major Computer Science, but it is only a BA and is not a very big one since the school is primarily a business school. They also don’t have as good of a selections of majors that I can choose from. I like that it has small class sizes, because i feel like the teachers are more enthusiastic about teaching and i can make friends in classes more easily.
I don’t know anyone at this school so I would be alone, but I feel like the school is lively, the campus is much more beautiful, and has a lot of athletic students like me. However, a lot of people at this school like to party, and im not a partier really. I’m more of a stay-in type and I’m afraid my friends would not like that about me here where at school A most students are like that.
I bet I could see my friends at the other school sometimes because its only 10 minutes away. But is this school worth the price and not as good of major program?
I would choose school A. I feel like you would feel left out at a “party” school if you don’t party, and knowing people at a school is a huge plus. Also a cheaper school with a better program in your major is better. You usually don’t make friends in college classes as easily as you do in clubs, so having more of those is better.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll make the right decision.
I went to a private college in a town with a State school. I never considered the other school but I did look at larger State schools. I wanted a smaller school where I wouldn’t get lost in the crowd. In retrospect, although more costly, I made the right choice because the school I went to was great for my major, which at the end of the day is most important.
One thing you might want to consider is that many colleges that are located in the same town often have agreements that would enable you to take a class at the other school. I took a class at the State school. I even had a friend that took many classes at the State school because my school didn’t have her major. I certainly wouldn’t recommend that but just something to think about. If I were you I would go to the larger school since it has a great program for your major.
