Statistically, the Mormon population is more or less evenly matched with the Jewish population in America, yet only Judaism is considered a real religion according to popular opinion. Apparently, it’s not all about numbers; therefore, it must be the Mormon doctrine itself that society considers cultish. I guess they need a new marketing strategy because their door-to-door sales technique just isn’t cutting it.

What Would It Take For Mormonism To Be Considered A Real Religion As Opposed To A Cult?

A Miracle since they seem to lack the confidence to stand as a religion and keep mistakenly trying to claim they are Christian!
Do Christians have to wear silly underwear to go to church?
Do Christians have to avoid various foods and drinks?
Do Christians have to prove they are fervent believers before they are allowed into church?
Do Christians have to ban anyone from entering church that is not totally committed?
Do Christians act as if their religion is some sort of secret society by banning non members from their churches?
Do Christians believe they will become gods?
Compare the bible and Christian beliefs with the Mormon book and beliefs and it is as plain as day that Mormons only claim to be Christian because they are afraid to stand up as an entirely separate religion!
Seen the advertisements with people doing everyday things with the line “and they are Mormon”? Seems the Mormon hierarchy recognize that they are seen not just as an extremist cult but also different to other people!
Mormonism is closer to scientology than Christianity!
Well, here is what you do, you murder and rob as many people as you have to for awhile and then everyone “follows” you.
If this goes on for so long then everyone is just born into it and no one considers you a cult. Even though you just got where you were by murdering a lot of people.
So, if the mormons are really serious enough they just need to take the fuq over, set up shop, and when they are in charge of everything and people are just born in it they will not be considered a cult at all.
Worked for the catholic/christian/muslim religions anyway.

They would have to ditch their Book of Mormon and the claims Joseph Smith made about it, and himself.
They would have to admit that Jesus Christ, the Word of God, was never created (John 1:1-3).
They would have to stop claiming to be the only religion in the world to have genuine priesthood and prophet status, given to them alone by God.
They would have to renounce their “Restoration” theology; that the first century Church quickly became so corrupt that it fell into apostasy, God raising up Joseph Smith in the 1800s for “the latter day” saints to become God’s only channel of blessing.
They would have to stop teaching spiritual apartheid (three levels of the Kingdom, only diligent, baptised, Temple-sealed, tithing Mormons attaining the highest level.)
They would have to preach salvation only comes because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and only those who repentantly put all their faith in what He did can be pardoned by God.
That sort of thing. But they are a real religion. The question is, “Are they a Christian religion?” My comments above go some way to showing why mainstream Christianity says they are not.
You are missing the point. Over 15 million Christians have already accepted Mormonism as Christianity. Roughly half of the adult membership converted from other Christian churches. One non-LDS researcher estimated that church membership will top 265 million by 2080.
This is why Protestants have started a propaganda campaign to demonize Mormons, and accuse them of not being Christian. They fear the Mormons and their doctrines. Mormons, for their part, are unusually devoted.
All religions are a cult, just not everyone calls them such.
But when you start talking about alien planets you kinda lose my interest in it ever likely to be a serious proposition.

They will never be considered anything other than a cult because they put the book of Mormon above the Bible and main stream Christianity will always oppose them.
Over time, cults evolve into religions.
