I’m planning on going on a vacation to the South but I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not. I’m TECHNICALLY considered white (I’m Armenian if you know what that is LOL) and us Armenians are Christians but I’ve heard some really mean and hurtful things about myself and my family as we’re fairly dark-skinned from this California sun (My *** and thighs are pale yet my arms and legs are darker than some light-skinned Blacks. People have called us camelbackers, sandn****rs, terrorist and stuff of that sort on times like vacations which put a damper on our moods. I know that most of the racism is over however my dad was attacked by an overly patriotic white male and was thrown into a lake and broke his leg and almost his skull and we were threated to be shot. The cops showed up and the dude was sentenced to a just a month in jail. I just don’t want stuff like this to happen again. Also, I know about the dangers of Atlanta, New Orleans, Memphis, Jackson, and Birmingham, all of which are cities I want to visit. I have no problem being in black majority cities. I’ve been in South Central Los Angeles plenty of times even at night (Yes I’m still alive). But are the risks really that high? You’re mostly at risk in LA if you’re gang affiliated. I don’t know about the South. Nothing more than a chain snatching or car theft really happens here unless you live South Central. Anyways, sorry for such a long read but I want to visit the South really badly but I’m hesitant and having second thoughts. The closest I’ve been to the South is Miami and it doesn’t have that Southern feel and atmosphere to it. I went into the Everglades and it was barely anything close it as how others have described it. Overall, is it worth visiting? I want answers only from locals or people who regularly. Not from people whose Uncle Joey passed through on a truck route from Vegas to Tampa or who’ve been to NOLA for Mardi Gras for a day. Thanks and please answer if you haven’t died from natural causes yet.
