I’d like to start a blog, not to make money, but to organise my writing and to make it accessible to a larger audience. I am aware that I need to narrow down my blog topic so as to be able to market it effectively. I would like to write about current affairs and prominent issues in politics, law and technology. Is this too broad a niche?
I’m thinking the following sorts of posts:
– Opinion pieces
– xyz subject explained: e.g. something in the news put into context and explained simply
– Personal life columns: light-hearted, off-topic posts about things I encounter in my life
– Tech how-tos/guides

Hi guys,
I discovered internet marketing about 3 months ago and have already got 2 small sites running but still learning the ropes.
I just have a question that I am stuck with, so I was hoping that someone might be able to help.
My recent experience and passion has been with bringing a product to market (which I managed to do successfully) and I’d like to start a blog on that – not claiming to be an expert but sharing my experiences and getting experts in to interview.
The problem is I have had trouble finding good ‘money’ keywords based on Pat Flynn’s Keyword research webinar criteria – the SEO competition looks fairly high and traffic ok-low. Looking at the competition, I am confident I can provide a better authoritative site than most of them but without those money keywords would I just be wasting my time?
I’d love to capitalize on the experience I have had over the last few years and share the lessons I’ve learned with others but obviously do not want to ignore all the advice i’ve been reading on the importance of picking good keywords.
Should I go with my passion/experience and expertise or should I scrap this idea as being too risky (not enough traffic/too much competition) and focus on a different niche all together?
Any advice you could give would be much appreciated – and Thank you!!

Also another question, what exactly do you write in your blog? What other methods of affiliate marketing has other people used that generates pretty good traffic? Is blogging the ONLY good way?

Hello All.
Hope some of you will be able to give me some straight answers for these questions. I’ve done my own little ‘crash course’ into SEO and Internet Marketing this week. I’m confident (ish) on most areas, but have stumbled on some questions which I need to clarify. (Sorry if some of these sound stupid) but here goes :
1.) Do Follow and No Follow Links. I know how to see if a website is ‘Do follow’ or ‘No follow’ but when gaining backlinks, do I always have to type in either the ‘do follow’ or ‘no follow’ code? I know I should do this for commenting and my own blog, and for other blog comments, but what about article directories, guest blogging, directories etc?
2.) I understand that in theory, posting on ‘do follow’ Auto approved blogs isn’t good because it will probably be hit by scam. However, it I wrote some quality comments related to the niche and added a backlink to my own blog instead of my main page, would this be ok?
3.) How do I make my own personal blog, non- auto approved and no follow? Is it by installing the plugin Akismet?
4.) I’m currently having a website built, and I’m currently looking at Plugin’s for my WordPress blog. . My web designer hasn’t mentioned if he is going to install any Social Media plugin’s.for my blog. However on the blog page, he has included most of the social media links at the top. Do I still need to install a social media plugin, or can it be done manually without a special plugin(I’m abit worried as my designer doesn’t seem to know much about these plugin’s but has added these links for me anyway??
I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

I have a blog that is 3 months old. I am trying to rank high for a longtail keyword for a gaming niche. How many articles do i need to write with longtail keywords included in them to rank high so i can get traffic to my blog? Or better yet, how many articles to do i need to write. the keyword and niche is very little competition.
