It’s set in a conservative, small Irish town in modern times.
Rosie Hammel, 17 years old. Relatively tall and thin. Pale skin with wavy dark brown hair. Light blue/grey eyes. Very pretty. Wears ‘quirky’ glasses. Often wears plaid shirts, skinny jeans and converse. Introverted, tries to fit in but just can’t. Intelligent. Accidentally outed her former best and only friend Jacqueline to their entire all-girls Catholic school on their first day back. Will she now face being alone now that her only friend isn’t talking to her? Has a 22 year old sister in college in Limerick. Her parents, Bob and Patricia Hammel and herself all live together in a small bungalow. Bob is a postman and Patricia takes care of the elderly and invalids. Middle-class. Both Bob and Patricia are easy-going and would let Rosie do almost anything she wants, mainly because Rosie is always stuck at home and they feel a bit sorry for her.
Jacqueline O’ Hara (A.K.A. Jack), 17 years old. Tall and in good shape from playing volleyball. Long blonde hair, tanned. Big green eyes and full lips. Often wearing designer clothing. Very well-dressed. High-femme. Loves wearing blazers and teaming bright coloured skirts with socks and heels. Moved from Dublin when she was 13 years old. Desired by many boys around the town but Jack always has an exuse to turn them down. Popular, but since being found out as gay, her friendships have shaken. Very laid-back, chilled personality. Outgoing. A bit of a badass. Only child. Her parents are Peter and Vanessa O’ Hara. Originating from Ballsbridge, Co. Dublin, she is a D4 girl. Her dad sees a niche in the market for a big shopping centre in the town and decides to start construction as soon as possible and they move. High-upper class. Her father is a multi-millionaire business man and his wife isn’t required to work for a living. They live in a big mansion on the outskirts of the town. Her father is always working so they don’t have that close of a relationship and she also isn’t close with her mother. They don’t relate. She sees her mother as very superficial and shallow whereas Jack doesn’t like how she has everything at her feet. She faces no real adversity.
Tómas Scully, 16 years old. Average height, average body type. A bit on the pale side. Deep blue eyes, thinnish lips and a strong jaw-line. Skinned head. Opts to wear tracksuits on a daily basis. Foster adopted by Séamus and Marie O’ Hara (Jack’s parents). Has a thick skin from the rough years in foster care and has become apart of a gang. He finally feels accepted and belonging to something with people of similar backgrounds. But deep down he knows what they are doing is wrong. When Tómas was eight, he was out playing football with his twin sister. The ball went out onto the road and he told her to go and get it, but then she was hit by a car and killed. Was put into foster care when he was just 11 years old because of neglect at home. Was in and out of homes but was never taken in because his ‘rebellious’ nature was too much for certain households. When he was 15 years old he was fostered by the O’Hara’s and finally adopted at 16 years old. Came from a lower-class background but now can live life comfortably with the O’Hara’s.
Rodrigo Sanchez, 17 years old. Kind of small and slim. Black curly hair with blue highlights at the tips. Tanned with brown eyes and thick eyebrows. Very pretty. Loves to wear coloured skinny jeans with vans. Usually combined with unusual jumpers or colourful shirts. An eccentric bisexual who is a foreign exchange student from Spain. When Rodrigo is caught with a man, his deeply religious host parents try to get the ‘deviant’ out of him. Sick of being mistreated, Rodrigo runs away with no money and will do anything to survive. He finds a ‘sugar daddy’ but then he falls in love with a girl called Adia. Two older brothers and one older sister. Oldest brother is in prison but his other brother is a successful model. His sister is settled down with a family and husband. Lower-middle class. Wanted to get out of Las Ramblas, Barcelona and experience the rest of the world, he payed for his foreign exchange out of the money his father left for him and was sent to Ireland. His father, Juan, was unemployed, and abandoned his family for a life with another woman when Rodrigo was 14 years old. His mother, Alva, works in a shop.
Adia Achebe, 16 years old. A little shorter than average. Curvy. Rocks an afro. Dark eyes, almost strikingly black. Very delicate facial features. Loves prints and she is often seen wearing colourful patterned leggings teamed with a nice short jacket and wedges. Known around the town as ‘easy’, Adia wants nothing serious as she fears it will distract her from her studies. (Also a fear of her strict Nigerian father). But when she decides to get a taxi home from a night out and things go terribly wrong, it is unlikely she will ever be able to trust someone again.

I lay in the bed incredulously. A corridor of light stretched diagonally across my bedroom, illuminating fragments of dust in the air and warming the tops of my legs which were uncomfortably hot underneath the heavy duvet. The light made its way across the floor and rested upon a book flung there which I can’t quite remember the name of. I just remember being frustrated with the ending. I think it might have been a Hardy novel. But that doesn’t matter. What mattered was the girl lying next to me, her recently tanned skin shining in the early morning sunlight. She lay on her stomach with her right arm bent underneath her, the curve of her breast showing above the crook of her elbow. Her naked back was entirely exposed, the curve of her spinal cord running down to where her body disappeared into the duvet. Her dark brown hair fell across her face and over her shoulders, spreading itself on the pillow. Her back rose and fell in harmony with her steady, sleeping breath and her eyelids flickered in dream. Her full pink lips were slightly parted and formed a subtle smile that I never saw when she was awake. Her shield could not be lifted; she was vulnerable to anyone and anything. That was the first morning of my life that I felt like a man and not a teenage boy. That was the morning when I realised what I wanted to do with my life. That was the morning I discovered what real love was. The very same morning after Eve Wilcox had taken my virginity.
That is the memory I always return to when thinking of Eve. I think of her sleeping next to me. I think of her as mine. But I just want to set a few things straight. I’m going to tell the story of Eve and me, maybe not in order but how I like to remember it. Whether I start with when we met or when we parted it’s all the same. It all happened.
First I’ll tell you about myself. My name is Jude Moore. My parents named me after that Beatles song (you know the one) which resulted in numerous taunting renditions of the repetitive chorus throughout my childhood and adolescence. I can’t quite say I’ve ever forgiven my parents for that. I had a pretty standard upbringing. I had a twin sister and a younger brother. My sister was 3 minutes older than me so I guess you could say that I had middle child syndrome. My brother, Michael, was always the golden child. Golden hair, golden personality, golden everything. Michael was supreme in every social sphere. Everyone loved him. He went to Oxford, graduated with a first and he now lives with his lovely family in a very nice house in Chiswick. He started earning more money than my father when he was only 26 years old. Every time Michael would speak about his job my father would sit back in his chair and stare at a chosen spot on the kitchen wall with a rehearsed look of pride that, to me, was unmistakably marred by envy. My sister, Delphine, always had her own niche wherever she went. She could always slot herself right in. When she was 10 she would sit with the girls who liked to talk about Jaqueline Wilson novels. She read them all and she would say that she was ‘method acting’ a phrase she learned from the description on the back of one of my father’s books. When she reached adolescence she had a knack for being the arty individual kid. In university she discovered her true niche and now, like Michael, she lives happily in Kent with her husband and 6 children. Yes, 6. Even though we were twins we weren’t really alike. We’ve never been alike. Mum would say that when we were toddlers we never fought over toys or anything because we simply didn’t like the same things. We had nothing in common. Maybe it’s because we’re not identical.
I suppose that I felt dwarfed by my siblings when I was young. I felt so entirely different from the rest of my family that I was sometimes uncomfortable around them. Mostly because I thought they were uncomfortable around me. My relationship with my family during my adolescence can be summed up by one event; the death of my best friend, Simon, when I was sixteen years old. He had been diagnosed with leukaemia when he was twelve but it didn’t get bad until he was around fourteen. Anyway, he died and I was very sad. His brother called me the day he died when I was with my family shopping for our Christmas tree. When we had finished speaking I put my phone in my pocket and didn’t say a word. It wasn’t until a week later when my mum opened the invitation to Simon’s funeral that they realised why I had been in such a ‘mood’ for the past few days. They sat me down in the kitchen and my dad asked me why I hadn’t told them. I didn’t have an answer for them. They said something about me being in denial which was a natural stage of grief. But that wasn’t it. I just hadn’t seen the point in telling them. They couldn’t fix it and they couldn’t have said anything to make me feel any better. Better to suffer in silence I thought.

“”Charles Francis Flynn – known in his neighborhood as simply, Charlie, is a 20th century American criminal. Charles was born in May of 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. A 6’3” man with a slim build, wavy slicked back dark brown hair and light green Irish eyes. He was first arrested at the age of 17 in 1963 for a drug arrest and continued his downward spiral from there. Flynn started working with a uncle on the west side of Manhattan and was drafted by the US Army at the age of 21 in the summer of 1967, Flynn was not pleased and considered himself “too good for the military”, Flynn, however received little pity from the Army. Flynn was sent to Vietnam by September of that same year and fought in combat during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Flynn was honorably discharged in 1969, despite superiors noting Flynn as “holding a deep disdain for authority figures”. After returning to civilian life, Flynn’s drug use became a severe issue. Flynn lived with his parents for several years and around 1977, his father found him a job with a small steel company that had it’s main office in the World Trade Center, Flynn excelled as a commodities trader. Flynn became part of the Wall Street culture “sticking with your own”, Flynn was loosely affiliated with all Irish Catholic traders, stock brokers, bankers, CEO’s, accountant and lawyers, known as the “White Collar Irish mob”. He has been described as not “incredibly intelligent but used his good looks, deceit, manipulative skills and street smarts to quickly advance in his new career” In 1982 Flynn was arrested for insider trading and served 5 months in federal prison, upon release Flynn realized he had lost his job, this greatly angered Flynn.
In 1984, at age 38, Flynn moved back in with his parents and younger sister. It was around this time Flynn created started a new firm, while the SEC was investigating him. Flynn eventually agreed to pay a fine in addition to being barred from trading by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1988, Flynn used several aliases, including Mark Rose.
In an attempt to use the Roman Catholic Church to discourage questions of legitimacy, Flynn founded the St. Francis of Assisi Foundation in the largely impoverished and African descent nations of the predominantly Catholic Haiti and the American Virgin Island’s, with a nominal mission of investing in insurance companies in order to fund hospitals. Among people solicited to join the Foundation board was retired CBS Evening News anchorman Walter Cronkite; when he declined to join, his name was used anyway. An official of the Roman Curia, Monsignor Emilio Colavanni, agreed to sign a letter falsely stating that the Foundation received funding from the Vatican in exchange for several million dollars for his personal use and a twenty million dollar donation to the Catholic church. Colavanni was extradited from Vatican City in November 1997, where photos of the then 65 year old being led shackled and handcuffed by well armed CIA agents went viral. Colavanni served a six year sentence in a cushy Maryland federal prison known as “Club Fed”, from September 1998 – October 2004. As of 2012 he is 78 years old and living in Italy. Colavanni gave agents critical information in exchange for a drastically reduced sentence, Washington federal prosecutors indicted Colavanni in late 1997 and planned to “throw the book at Colavanni, an important and trusted man holding one of the most high profile positions in the world.
By November 1993, Flynn’s illegal antics had caught up with him and he was under serious investigation by the FBI for defrauding the government, tax fraud, wire fraud and various other crimes. Around this time, Flynn’s long-time and devout Catholic girlfriend Cara Kelly threatened to turn him in, due to using the churches name in vain, after Flynn attempted to persuade her and she refused, Flynn brutally stabbed her at least thirty times and set his Connecticut compound on fire with her in it, attempting to destroy any paper trail.
Thanks to Colavanni Flynn was immediately apprehended fleeing Ireland for Canada. He refused to speak with government agents during interrogation. Flynn was likely to face a life sentence, the only debate was to hold him in federal or state prison. During Flynn’s arraignment, he appeared before the federal judge verbally abuse, calling the agents and judges everything from a “fat bald f***” to a “homo”. In late 1999, Flynn was found guilty on all charges. As of 2012, Flynn, now 65 years old, is currently serving a life sentence in Colorado Super-max prison in Florence.””

Which story/plot do you feel fits my characters the best?
Characters:
Nathan Age: 20
Physical: 5’9″ lean, sculpted with a tattoo on his left arm/shoulder, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, tanned
Info about him/back story: He was the bassist for a semi-successful metal band. They toured for 12 months after putting out an album. Their label dropped them due to lackluster sales. They finished their concert dates and then called it quits. He doesn’t know what to do with himself now, because that is all he ever wanted to do.
Joan Age: 18 (Nathan’s love interest in all of the stories)
Physical: 5’5″, sun streaked long brown hair, exotic brown eyes, curvy but toned build, golden complexion
Info about her: Dad was in a very successful band but he was killed in a car crash when she was 5. She inherited his love of music and plays both drums and guitar. She started an online clothing business with her two best friends a year ago, and it has been a modest success. They make their own designs and print them on everything – clothes, hats, bags, purses, etc. Very independent and doesn’t want her dad’s old friends to be the reason why she’s successful.
All story/plots take place after his band’s last concert.
Story/Plot #1
Nathan moves to town to stay with his aunt. Meets Joan at his new job working at a music store. He was always obsessed with making his music better, now he has learned just to enjoy music for it’s own sake. Plot: When his band gets back together, he has to make a decision. Does he give up the new life he has built for himself (which includes his relationship with Joan) or does he try to reach stardom one more time?
Story/Plot 2
Nathan comes back home – feels like a failure. His dad was very mad at him for going in the first place, and will not let up on him. He pressures Nathan to take more responsibility in the family business and go back to school. Plot: He reunites with his band, but this time Joan is their manager. Her online company designs and markets band merchandise and her connections to the music world from dead dad’s friends give them a much needed boost. His dad is really mad that he’s back to the same old loser lifestyle and not helping out with the family business like he should. They have a huge fight. The next day his dad has a massive heart attack and might not live. He feels a massive amount of guilt and feels like he has to choose between two paths. Does he go ahead and go through with the band, or does he give it all up to be there for his family?
Story/Plot 3
Nathan is looking for a new direction in his life. But while he figures that out he moves in with his best friend and band mate Caleb. While they were on the road, Caleb’s uncle died and left Caleb his house in his will. They finally go check it out (his family took care of it while he was on the road). Joan lives next door. Plot: They find a huge stash of money in a secret compartment in the bathroom cabinet. They don’t tell anyone and spend a chunk of it. The FBI shows up because the money was “marked” money from a bank robbery and think they stole it. They have to clear their name.
Story/Plot 4
Nathan’s mom has been in a coma for the last two years as a result of a car accident. Shortly after he gets back home, she dies. He was going through her papers to try and figure out what to do when he comes across a letter from his dad (who has never met). In the letter his dad was begging his mom to let him come to visit, before it was too late. Late for what? He tossed the letter aside – his dad never took an interest in him before, and he felt like it was too late for them to have a relationship now. As he gets closer to his 21 birthday, he starts having weird pains and cravings for meat.
Plot: He is a werepanther. Werepanthers don’t shift for the first time until the guys are 21 and the females are 18 (when they reach their maturity). His dad arrives before his shift and takes Nathan to his home. There are different clans and different types of weres. His dad’s clan is going through an uproar because the old clan leader died, and now the most powerful were is an 18 year old girl – Joan. Their culture dictates the most powerful were is the leader of the clan, but they rarely have clan leaders that are women. The culture also dictates when the clan leader is not mated, they have to have one or all of the unattached weres of the opposite sex will compete for them. And the next powerful were is a real bad guy, so she must pick someone before the clan erupts in violence.
Which do you think is best? Or if you didn’t like any of them, what changes do you suggest?

So, basically, I was given an assignment where I just write a ‘short story’- ( 50-85 pages) about any original plot I made up myself. I eventually came up with the idea Of a very stern, haughty police officer who is paired with the less-responsible daughter of the Police Chief against his will. When I handed in the mandatory plot sheet the teacher said it was fine, but I want to see if I should make the characters a bit more ‘realistic’. Below I have provided this template:
Name: Solomon Edward Janey ( Teasingly called ‘Sol’ by coworkers)
Age: 35
Personality: Very Proud, Straight-Forward way of thinking, Unsocial, Easily Annoyed, Hard-Working, and Insistent
Appearance: A ‘powder-like complexion’, dark gray eyes, and short, slightly graying dark brown hair.
History: The only child of a late Malpractice attorney and a nurse. He was raised in an average house in a solitary neighborhood, and spent more time with his mother than his father. Was known as a ‘braniac’ ( or rather, smart-alec) during school years, and graduated Magna *** Laude from Penn University. After spending two years in medical School, he decided to become a cop after witnessing a robbery in which the cops were obviously biased, and deciding that he would do a much better job. After becoming an official officer of PPD (Philadelphia Police Department) he soon established a very good place, living in a small townhouse making a modest salary. On his sixth year, he was paired with the slightly childish daughter of his boss against his will. He often finds himself arguing with her, but is forced to learn to cooperate when they are given the case of a murder of an heiress, and the attempted murder of her sister, who is now in their custody.
Name: Friday Bethany Allen
Age: 29
Personality: A bit of a slacker, slightly irresponsible, reluctant to take lead, quiet, childish, and thinks in ‘creative ways.’
Appearance: An olive complexion she inherited from her mother, brown eyes, and shoulder-length black hair.
History: Friday grew up with her single father and her younger brother. After having her mother leave at the age of 5, she became more introverted. Currently, it’s not as bad as it was, but it is very rare to find her chatting away. She dreams of becoming a detective after reading the complete Sherlock Holmes series, and was convinced by her father that becoming a Police Officer was the way to go. She was an average student, graduating with decent grades from her local community college. She just recently moved from her condo from the rest of her family to a small studio apartment in the city. When paired with Solomon on her first day she is turned off by his very cold attitude, but when given their first case, tries to get along with him.
Name: Alice Sophia Winston
Age: 21
Personality: Slightly-spoiled, sarcastic, logical, and very afraid.
Appearance: Milk-chocolate skin, wide brown eyes, and short black hair.
History: Alice grew up in a very large mansion, just outside of city-limits. Daughter of a business owner, and secret black-market seller, she grew up living a life of luxury. With full knowledge that as the youngest she would not receive the family fortune, she made sure to keep good relations with her sister. After the sudden death of her father, her sister’s own bloody murder during a fun night-on-the-town not even a month later, she is in fear of her own. Now in the care of the PPD, she finds herself under the custody of Friday and Solomon, two people whose constant arguing makes her feel as if she might just die anyway.
So when I passed it in, my teacher ( who was doing something on the computer) barley looked at it before handing It back without barley saying anything. To ensure I get the best grade possible, I would like some feedback on these three characters. Are they realistic? Are they developed enough? Please tell!
