I don’t think America is becoming more religious. As a college student who knows many people across this country at institutions of higher education, most of them don’t believe in a god. As these younger generations grow up and make it into political office, religion will decline in civilized areas even more. I guarantee I’ll see the first president of this country who puts agnostic (or hopefully atheist) as their religious belief rather than Christian.
According to a 2007 Pew poll, the number of “non-affiliated” Americans was 16.1%, up from 8% just one decade before. This number is nearly 25% in the under 25 age group. And 55% of those who self-identify as “atheists” are under 35. So yes, the trend is that America is getting less religious and more and more young people in particular are turning away from religion.http://religions.pewforum.org/reportshttp://newsfeed.time.com/2011/03/23/stud…

Christians are going to claim polls are wrong but this is the truth. I am part of that youth and many of us do not believe! Get over it!

Christians only 😀 So i’m 20, i love nature, skateboarding, and hardcore metal! im a regular kid, i found jesus a year and a half ago, and my life has truly changed! im growing each day. however, my whole life i have never found my niche, or comfort zone, in life. i have never find my “this is where i belong” moment in life. i have never found friends who are ones like me who love nature, traveling, christian metal, etc.
i’ve known people like that, but was too shy in high school to meet such people. now that im two years out of high school, im much more confident and secure through Jesus. however, everywhere i go, even now after jesus, i still dont find people who want to live to travel and spread Jesus’ love, or have the upbeat personality of a Jesus lover like i do… do you believe God is leading me away from people like me to lead me to something greater later on ( hopefully soon, Lord willing)???
im trying to stay faithful, what do you think??

I know that Pepperdine is an extremely religious school. I really want to go there because of their good business program, nice campus, and their “dry campus” I actually dont do drugs or drink alcohol and so I like that Pepperdine being a Christian school really cracks down on the no drinking and drugs thing. The only thing Im worried about is that i dontgo to church regularly and havent. I DO believe in God definitely, but im not one of those kids who grew up going to church every week etc. Since Im not really affiliated with a specific church, would that decrease my chances of getting in? Would it make me stick out or something? I have no problem taking any religious classes or anythig like that at pepperdine btw. Its just the factor that i dont go to church, but still believe in God.

I believe in God – He is incorporeal, and supreme – there is no trinity, or whatever. I believe that you don’t have to believe in Him to get to an afterlife – all that matters is HOW you conduct yourself in this life. I believe that he LOVES everyone – regardless if you’re an atheist, Muslim, Christian, homosexual or not, or whatever.
However, I don’t believe in Jesus. I see him as a historical figure, and that’s all it is for me.
What are my beliefs called? I’m kind of sick of having to tell people my religious beliefs “I believe in God but I’m not affiliated with a religion or a faith.” It’s a bit of a hassle.
