What Would You Do In My Situation? Any Feedback Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks!?

I am experiencing some trouble at work . . . Specifically, I’ve completed my third year at the company, but my managers are still having a hard time trying to figure out where I fit into the company, what to do with me. I had a hunch about this problem before they became aware of this problem – primarily because I saw that there really isn’t a specific opening in the business unit for me to occupy. I brought up the problem to my project manager, and he basically told me that it’s up to me figure things out. It’s not exactly the most supportive atittude, but I’ve moved on from this setback, and I’ve decided to focus on the solutions. I’ve came up with several, and I was wondering if I can get some feedback as to which one would be the best for me (financially and professional-development-wise).
1. Look for other opportunities within the company, and help my current business unit part-time. This way, I don’t burn bridges with my exisitng managers; I can still have a niche.
2. Apply for opportunities outside the company.
I am aware that 1 and 2 need to happen concurrently.
3. Apply to medical school, and become a physician. I feel that there will be a shortage of physicians in the workforce later on. Physicians are paid well; have a prestigious profession; never laid off; and the financial rewards at the end of residency + fellowship are something that I’d never be able to attain if I keep doing what I do now.
What are your thoughts? Or maybe I should just look for a new job (both inside and outside the company), while taking the coursework at night to gain admission to medical school. In other words, I should be doing all these 3 things.
I may have answered my own question there, but I am still feeling very undecided about which field to pursue while searching/working at my full-time job. I have narrowed it down to: medicine, accounting, computer science.
While I feel that medicine is the most financially lucrative field of all 3, it is also the one that is least related to my job and the most expensive route. I know that there are people who start medical school well beyond their early twenties (That’d be the case for me – probably will not make it to medical school until late 30s if I start now.) And I am wondering how I’d feel about that – surrounded by twenty-somethings who are much more adept at school and taking tests. I also have to hold down my full-time job as an analyst while trying to gain admission, and that makes for limited time in all the clinical experience that I must obtain for medical school admission. It is certainly do-able, but given how medical-school admission is more and more competitive every year, I don’t know if I want to spend a lot of time trying to gain admission into something that may not happen. What if I never get in? Wouldn’t all of that time spent on MCAT, admission, interviews simply go to waste?
Computer science and accounting are more related to what I do as an analyst; however, I feel that the downfall of jobs in these fields are just like that of my current job. When there isn’t work, you’re always afraid that your job is on the chopping block. Also, the financial rewards are simply not as lucrative as that of a physician. It’d cost considerably less to do degrees in computer science and accounting than a medical degree. Of course, the latter is also more prestigious.
Any thoughts?

Is This Illegal Or Not?

The company I work for has recently filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and is closing a multitude of stores and laying off thousands of employees (myself included). We were informed that if we quit (including with two week notice) anytime during the liquidation process (from now until “sometime in April”), we would automatically be blacklisted from the company and its affiliates and would not be permitted to use them as a reference for future employment. I was perfectly fine with this until they cut me completely off from work. I am still considered employed, but I receive no hours and therefore, have no money. I honestly, need food stamps and/or unemployment at the moment until I can find a job, but I would have to quit from Borders to do so, but by doing so, the company will try and “screw” me over. What am I suppose to do and can a company actually do this??

Help With Filling Out Job Application?

I am filling out an application for a hospital position and it ask the following question
Have you ever been employed by Valley Health or any of its affiliates in any capacity?
I have not worked for the hospital but I am a part of the hospital auxiliary (volunteer group) and I volunteer 30-40 hours a week so should I put that in there or just leave it blank?

Where Do I Begin In Analyzing My Job Strengths, Unique Talents, And Things I Truly Enjoy That Are Not Hobbies?

I’m having a difficult time figuring out what I’m good at. I’ve taken some strengths quizzes and they seem to give me a decent idea, but they are also somewhat general and if you know what the Barnum Effect is that’s probably playing somewhat of a role in taking those quizzes too.
I’m a 20 year-old college student so I should really start to figure this out as I need to start applying for internships and what not soon. I may also be a bit modest, so that could also be making this difficult. But I mostly think I just haven’t found the right niche. I do have a job right now, but I wouldn’t say it emphasizes or brings out my strengths as much as it does for other co-workers.
Where should I start in this investigation?

People Just Don’t Understand Collective Bargaining Does The Media Need To Do A Better Job Defining These Terms?

People think that Collective bargaining is just the right to put a group together & bargain as a group, not true. Collective Bargaining means workers have to join a Union if they want to work. In the Public sector it gives Unions a monopoly & control of all government paid jobs.
I don’t think forcing a company to hire through a Union, taking their right to choose who will work for them, taking the right to terminate unproductive employees, taking the right to pay more productive employees more is even anything that could possibly be legal using any intelligent thought process. It’s ownership rights of the company given to Unions who don’t have any investment in the company, no ownership at all. It’s insane.
But when it comes to public tax paid jobs it’s even more insane and wrought with inevitable corruption.
Unions have the power, the workers don’t and the elected officials don’t. Unions have completely denied votes by members on merit pay, wouldn’t even allow members they are SUPPOSED to represent to vote on a proposal! Tell me that’s WORKERS RIGHTS? That’s Union Control, PERIOD. That’s not even the worst of it. Unions force government workers to pay around $1000 a month each, which means for every 1000 workers they get a million dollars and there are hundreds of thousands of workers. They take this money and use it to help politicians, usually Democrats get elected. Those politicians then turn around and make deals giving much higher than market wages, and worse than that give up the ability to fire bad workers, especially ugly in teachers case this sticks kids with teachers without incentive to do a good job. They can’t get paid more for doing a good job and in 2 years they gain tenure & can’t be fired for cause at all. THAT is the BIG problem with our public school system. That is what Union control over government jobs creates. Generates huge amounts of money they bribe politicians with. The tax payers loose, the kids loose, the workers use their right to choose representation or not to be represented. Those Unions don’t even allow teachers secret ballots.
Result?
Government Corruption, officials bribed by Unions & their guys gain huge support from workers, most of whom don’t want their money spent that way.
Control of Government jobs by corrupt Unions, they bribe officials & get about what they want costing the tax payers and corrupting the system as well as taking representation away from voters
lower quality output; especially insidious in teachers who don’t do a good job teaching kids
higher costs; including over payment & extravagant benefits like Cadillac health plans & extravagant retirement benefits that go on until the worker dies costing millions.
These costs is exactly what is bankrupting many states. They shouldn’t have been allowed because it’s obvious they were not sustainable, but the bribery greased the wheels for these insane benefits that the economy simply can’t support even in the best of times.
It’s obvious to me and to anyone with a functioning brain I’d say, that giving Unions the government support to remove ownership rights of a company and give them to a Union with no ownership in the company at all, isn’t anything that should have ever been even considered. It’s a taking of ownership which is obviously not fair, no different than just stealing part of the land your home sits on without paying for it. BUT that pales in comparison to the wrong that’s created by legally binding governments to give their power over government jobs over to Unions. It’s just amazingly corrupt.
When people understand even part of this information the poling is for what governor Walker is doing by nearly 2 to 1. And it should be for his actions by a much wider margin.
