I’m currently looking to enlist in the Air Force. The jobs that I’m currently looking at are diagnostic imaging and crypto linguist. Those two jobs are the ones that I’m most passionate about but I’m trying to come up with a list of around 5-7 jobs that I would be interested in. I was wondering if any current or prior airmen (or someone who is affiliated with or is knowledgeable about the Air Force) has any job recommendations similar to the two that I just listed? I would like to do something in either the medical or intelligence field. I know that this is a hard question to answer as we all have different skills and interests but I’m just curious to see what people will say, there’s a chance that someone might recommend something that I’m not even aware of and I could end up being really interested in that job choice. I appreciate the help! Thanks!

I apologize in advance for length.
First, some background. I have B.S. degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering and upon completion of my thesis, I will have a M.S. in aerospace. Recently, I got engaged. Weddings are not cheap and my fiance (also a graduate student) has significant student loans, so we decided that I should get a second job.
At this time, I cannot relocate so my options were very limited. I originally applied for a full-time technical assistant position which required no more “technical expertise” than proficiency with Visio and Excel. The compensation was $12/hour, and I figured that was okay for the expectations. Upon seeing my resume, they decided to interview me for a mechanical engineering position (which they had not yet listed as available). A couple days later, they offered me a “mechanical engineering assistant” position, full-time, $12/hour. The description sounded like the original tech asst. job description. I was told this position would last 3 months, at which point they may or may not make an offer to hire me as an actual engineer. We need the money and I had no problem with that payment for those responsibilities in the first place, so I accepted. I figured either I just bombed the interview or their work load wasn’t quite yet big enough to justify hiring another engineer.
So my first day, I find they’ve placed me in the engineering department. My boss introduces me as an engineer. My duties include CAD, design of experiments, data analysis – the whole works. What’s more, it was clear they really need someone who has more knowledge of fluid flow and controls than most mechanical engineers. I spent some time in the lab today, and it seems they need someone who has had some experience in designing test schedules. And from the sound of it, they expect the person to fill all those niches to be me. I was talking to the woman in the cubicle next to me after clocking out and she asked me how I liked it there so far. I told her the work was interesting, but different from what I’d been told it would be. She said a new guy is starting tomorrow in the tech assistant position.
Now, I do find the work interesting and I think it will be rewarding. But it seems like they’ve hired me as an engineer for $12/hour with no benefits. I know engineering salaries aren’t what they used to be, but that seems low (equivalent to around $24k/year). Maybe that will change in 3 months, but at this point, I have no guarantee. Even if I did, I still don’t think it’s right to expect the performance that they are at that rate for any amount of time. Are my expectations unreasonable, or is this much lower compensation than normal? If it’s the latter, do I have any leverage or did I give that up when I was willing to accept that pay for the tech asst position?

I met a man on an online dating service. We appeared to have everything in common, a real connection until I explained that i had a gross misdameanor 14 yrs ago. I only told him this because of the job he had (law enforcement) and I didnt know if that was something that could affect him. Even though he told me that he was glad I was honest with him he did indicate that he could not affiliate with anyone whom had a past like that. I was CRUSHED! So we let it go. 2weeks later he calls me and stated that he missed me wanted to know how I was and that he put in a 2 week notice to his current job and is now working on the back end of the job where the provisions of his associations were not so harsh. He asked if I could give him another chance and that he couldnt find anyone else that connected like we did and that he was wrong. And so I did, believing that people deserve second chances. He has the 905 credit score, the BMW, the house and career and I have lousy credit that i am trying to redeem from now, a condo, a car. The reason for mentioning this was because his friends indicated to him (he told me) why was he messing with someone like me when he can get a lawyer, doctor etc. It hurt my feelings needless to say but he was adament that he didnt care what they thought and wanted to just do this with me. We talked every single day since then, so we have been talking all together for 2 1/2 mths give or take. Well, long story short he applied (supposingly) for a job in my current state so we could be closer and according to him, it paid sooo much more and was ready for a change etc. He landed an interview. He was supposed to be here Tuesday last week. He never called going to the airport, layover or arrival. So, i called him and he answered whispering that he was in an interview already getting ready to met the CEO and VP that he loved me and he’ll call me right after the interview. Now, I was told the previous day the interview was at 1:30pm but when I called it was 11:30am, the flight was supposed to be at 10:30am arrival, and he told me they wanted to interview early. Strange I thought. And then he says that the interview was going to last 7 hrs especially if they liked him!! Huh? i let it go thinking well i’ll met him soon enough and everything will be great! NOT! He never called not even the consideration of a phone call, text ….nothing. Wednesday came and I saw him on facebook accepting friend request. I left it alone. Thursday he finally called didnt leave a message and then text me to call him ( this was the day he was supposed to leave). I took off 3 days of work to be with him. Why do I need to call him? I have never heard from him since and its been a week already. He never removed me from facebook either. SHould I call? It’s killing me to know what’s up. Oh by the way, the hotel that he supposingly applied and stayed at….he was never registered and there was never a job opening for it. What was the purpose of that? LIAR!
