Challenger Mitt Rommey reportedly only wrote a victory speech for Election Day, so revisions would have taken some time. But did the obsession with polls and tracking also delay his concession?
In an election season dominated by names like Gallup, Rasmussen and Nate Silver, the Romney number crunchers had their own methods. A campaign release described Project ORCA as a “massive undertaking” involving nearly 35,000 volunteers and designed to “conduct the world’s largest exit poll” and win the White House.
The project operates via a Web-based app volunteers use to relay the most up-to-date poll information to a “national dashboard” at the Boston headquarters. … Another key component to Project ORCA is state-of-the-art dashboard. For the past several months, a “brain” has been built into this dashboard and it will take in, analyze and recommend actions on the millions of pieces of incoming data. In the fast-paced environment of an Election Day command center, having this programmed “brain” will alert decision-makers to key findings and suggest reallocation of resources.
The human brains behind that brain came as a result of what Slate reported as a “summertime personnel spree” that included engineers who used to work at Apple, Google Analytics, Omniture and even Overstock.com, as well as “commercially available services.”
The success, though, would have to depend on volunteer troops united by a Web-based smartphone app. Romney himself called these forces, armed with the technology, an “unprecedented advantage on Election Day.”
This faith in algorithms led Romney for President communications director Gail Gitcho to tell PBS, “At 5 o’clock, when the exit polls come out, we won’t pay attention to that … We will have had much more scientific information just based on the political operation we have set up.”
Political campaigns these days live or die by the analytics, and PBS pointed out the marine metaphors carried over to the Obama camp, which nicknamed its process Dreamcatcher and Narwhal, and then shifted to a vote-tracking system named—of all things—Gordon. Yet an Obama spokesperson also cast doubt on the opposing party’s strategy, telling the Huffington Post, “In a national campaign, what additional things are the headquarters really going to do to move resources … ? Will an additional auto-call last minute really make a difference in a market like Northeast Ohio, which has been saturated for three months full of auto-calls?”

Had Project ORCA succeeded, it would have been lauded as the ultimate voter-turnout tool. But the expected long-drawn-out fight had been called well before midnight East Coast time by several networks, including Fox News. It would take an additional 90 minutes or so before the challenger conceded at 12:55 a.m., but the shock still lingered not only over the loss, but also over Orca’s failings.
Some Romney aides were surprised, too, especially since they had put an enormous amount of effort into tracking the hour-by-hour whims of the electorate. In recent weeks the campaign came up with a super-secret, super-duper vote-monitoring system that was dubbed Project Orca. … Early in the evening, one aide said that, as of 4 p.m., Orca still projected a Romney victory of somewhere between 290 and 300 electoral votes. Obviously that didn’t happen. Later, another aide said Orca had pretty much crashed in the heat of the action. ‘Somebody said Orca is lying on the beach with a harpoon in it,’ said the aide. (Nov. 7, Washington Examiner)
The analyses of why Romney lost are already in full gear. Somewhere in that postmortem will be a prolonged debugging session.

The former House speaker describes the Bain Capital model, in at least some instances, as “leverage the game, borrow the money, leave the debt behind and walk off with all the profits.”
And Gingrich says that raising questions about Romney’s track record at Bain shouldn’t be confused with an attack on capitalism.
Gingrich says that he’s proud of what he calls “real capitalists” who tell their workers that they are in it together.

SANTORUM: My take on that is that I don’t know of any companies, or very few companies, that go in and try to buy a company and try to tear it apart, make money and leave. I think every acquisition you look at it with an opportunity so you can create an ongoing business venture and because that’s how you make your most money.

I think this ad by Romney is BRILLIANT copying obama’s 2008 “Fundamentals” ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o8GSkkeXH0&feature=plcp
Here are some of my ideas:
1. Listen to Barack Obama in 2006: “Raising the debt limit is a sign of leadership failure”. Now the debt’s growing at $4 billion a day, at $16 trillion. In 2008: “If you don’t have anything to run on, you’re going to run nasty ads to scare voters about your opponent” And he’s run the most negative campaign in history. In 2009: “If I don’t get this done in 3 years, it’s going to be a one-term proposition” Oh really, Mr. President? We’ll take you up on that. “I’m Mitt Romney, and I approve this message.”
2. Radical Barack Obama was friends with terrorist Bill Ayers, who bombed the Pentagon, endangered millions of people, and said his only regret was that “he didn’t do enough”. His affiliate Tony Rezko is now facing years in prison for fraud charges. He’s endorsed by radical Muslim Louis Farakkhan who said that his goal was to destroy America. His own pastor, who baptized Obama’s children and preached to the Obamas for 20 years, Jeremiah Wright, said “God damn America” and called America “the US of KKK A”. And now, his trusted advisor, Cass Sustein, wants to ban all meat and allow animals full representation in court. Barack Obama: The more you know about him, the less you trust him. Too Radical. Too risky. Dead wrong for America. “I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message”
3. Obama has added over $10,000 in debt for every American. He took over the banks, the auto companies, and then put government in charge of our healthcare. Gas prices have skyrocketed and unemployment has been above 8% for over 40 months. It’s time for a change. “I’m Mitt Romney, and I approve this message”
4. Barack Obama. Mitt Romney. Two men running for President with very different records. Mitt Romney worked at Bain capital, creating over 100,000 jobs. Barack Obama never really had a job. Under Romney’s leadership, Massachusetts had a 4.7% unemployment rate. Under Obama, America has had unemployment above 8% for 40 months. Romney supports the Keystone Pipeline to create jobs and lower gas prices. Obama not only opposes the Keystone Pipeline, he personally blocked the plan that would’ve created 100,000 jobs right now. The choice is clear. Mitt Romney. “I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.”
5. Obama and Romney on energy. Romney supports the Keystone Pipeline, which would create over 100,000 jobs right now. Obama doesn’t. Romney supports drilling in Alaska, expanding oil shale development, and rescinding the offshore drilling moratorium, to lower gas prices right now. Obama doesn’t. Romney opposes a national energy tax, which would increase electricity rates up to 25%. Obama supports one. So next time you see an Obama attack ad(shows TV screen with “Big Oil” and Romney with oil spatterings), remember who will fight for lower gas prices. “I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.”

So, there is now no doubt that Barack Obama was a “card-carrying socialist” in his early political career. But the GOP’s gleeful use of this revelation against Mr. Obama in the presidential campaign hides in plain sight a much bigger problem: Most politicians in America today, including virtually all Republican “leaders” like Mitt Romney, are socialist fellow travelers. Fellow-traveling Republicans have been an open secret since Richard Nixon admitted “We are all Keynesians now,” by which he meant that what Keynes called “New Liberalism” had won the day.
John Maynard Keynes was the quintessential socialist fellow traveler who almost single handedly transformed the economics profession into an intellectual front for central planning and collectivist government intervention in the name of rectifying what he asserted were inherent flaws and instabilities in free markets.
In a recent keynote address delivered to the Seventh Annual Moral Foundations of Capitalism Conference at Clemson University, Dr. Richard M. Ebeling (professor of Economics at Northwood University), highlighted Keynesian fellow traveling. Ebeling pointed out, for example that in Keynes’s magnum opus, The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, Keynes was forthright and unapologetic in his belief that Soviet Russia had an advantage over the West due to its “almost religious revolutionary fervor, its romanticism of the common working man, and its condemnation of money-making. Indeed, the Soviet attempt to stamp out the ‘money-making mentality’ was, in Keynes’s mind, ‘a tremendous innovation.’”http://www.forbes.com/sites/lawrencehunt…
